Thread: On the good ship, PartyPop

Well, I've never been interested in JTL (if I wanted space fights, I'd play tie fighter), but some conversation I had last night made me realize I should care, at least in terms of how it'll affect the live game.
So, there are multiplayer ships, including the yachts we veterans are supposed to get. What kind of idea does this lead to? Party ship! Let's get all our ent friends, jump on a yacht, and party in space.
Ok, neat idea, kind of fun, sure. But when ents are in space, they're not in the cantinas. *I* care about this cause I want to see my friends and party with them, and I'm not planning on buying JTL. *They* care (they is anyone who fits this category) because they complain that ents are not easy enough to find now, and how easy will it be if they're out in space?
I can imagine that this problem will exist in general, in that a percentage of the population will be out in space, but with the idea of a party ship, it's a concentration of ents that would be out there.
Thoughts?

How would you get people to and from the party ship and other ships? I get the sense that ships are launched and docked but otherwise you are stuck in the ship you launch from. I'm also pretty sure you will have to purchase JTL just to ride on a friends ship.

Well, that's part of the problem, as I see it, is a group of ents (all of which will have purchased JTL (which it seems just about everyone in the world but me is planning on doing)) will plan to get together for a space party, which just involves everyone getting in the same group I imagine, and then they'll be locked away from the rest of the population for the duration of the party.
Perhaps they'd land every now and then to pick up others, but either way they're out of the cantinas.

Both of those statements are true. Once you launch you are stuck on the ship until it lands, no one can just enter or leave the ship. Also, you will have to have JTL to ride in the ships. This is the reason for the "Starship Terminals" now in most starports.

While being able to party on my StarYacht (the veterans reward ship) would be really cool, I just don't see it being that big of a deal. It's not like I can move from ship to ship. So if I'm in my X-Wing, I can't just trot over to the StarYacht, and pop in.

I think that space will remain mostly devoted to combat. I don't forsee a LOT of personal interaction occurring in space.

Don't worry, the ground game isn't going away.

I hear ya Aleyo, space jams! =) Seriously tho there have been hushed mumbles from the devs about a glass bottomed multi-person ship that will be in JTL sooner or later. I havent heard any confirmations on it but i suspect that it would primarily be for space entertainment pusposes. =) *fingers crossed*

I think NPC pirates could still present a small problem. Of course that is easy to resolve just pull out the mandovials of doom and beat them back

Here's a thought:

Ships with big windows so when you fly by on your TIE you can see people playing and dancing inside

I was smiling to that thought this morning in the shower.
Was wishing for a more excited looking /wave animation.

However, while space bar-hopping is out, private parties are in. Space weddings, intimate events, all sorts of goodies which cannot be interrupted. I assume, of course, that neutral ships are unattackable, we could have a massive hoopla in the MIDDLE of raging space battles.
