Thread: What Skills Are Needed To Place A Theatre?!

Hi there people, I need some help please!

Our beloved town is fast growing and will soon hopefully be at the level that we can put down a theatre, so I'm doing some research into it now.

From what I have established, theatres are classed as commercial structures in cities, that is they are owned by a player, on a players' lots, the same way as a cantina is, and have maintenance and admin privileges just like cantinas and med centres. What I can't seem to find is who is required to place them!

The /placecantina command comes with Master Dancer and Master Musician, granted, but is the same skill used for theatres, or do they have prerequisites of their own that differ from those of cantinas (apart from needing to bea level 4 city of course!).

I would be very grateful if you could all lend me your assistance with this one.

Thanks in advance,

You were right about everything you wrote...they can be placed in level 4 cities and they are player-owned like cantinas & med centers.

Master Dancers and Master Musicians are able to place theaters, but my sincere advice is: don't. The theaters are horribly broken.

Here's a list of some of the major things since I don't think you'll take my advice (I didn't take my advice. I do own a theater. )

  • The stage is not able to be decorated

  • Nalargons & Ommni boxes aren't usable on-stage unless you drag them up to it

  • Droid Effects are projected underneath the building

  • Healing & Buffing cannot take place onstage (only in the room backstage)

I do like the look of the theaters, but they aren't very functional. So if you guys just need a cool place to hang out and watch good shows a theater is a great place to do it, and it adds prestige to any city. Good luck whichever way you decide!

Rather than think of it as a theater, think of it as an Amphitheater. The audience seating and stageare outside. It's a nice looking building with a dressing room and all. However...

  • The only portion of it which you may assign a cover charge is the dressing room.

What those guys said. Between us, I'm not even sure I like the look of the theaters. They're probably my least-favorite player-city buildings. I wish they were much larger, and I wish they looked and worked more like the NPC theaters. I *love* those NPC theaters, with their huge stage and red chairs. I've long had a fantasy of cooking up an opera or musical or some such there. And they're great for dances like Formal and Lyrical. I wish player-city theaters looked like that.

Aye, but that would take more lots than a PA Hall

The devs were trying to keep them small so they'd be manageable with lots, especially when the owner of a theater also has to own the cantina 90% of the time.

Frankly, an indoor theater would kind of suck at that size. Think of a really tiny movie theater. It just looks better as an outdoor theater. Best with what they had to work with was my guess.

It would be a lot better if they created a bubble around theaters so that the outside "dome" would function as if they were indoors. That way you could hang up lights, decorate the stage for plays/performances, and buff/heal.

Just to answer one other aspect: to place a theater, double-click on the deed. You can double-click on a cantina deed too instead of /placecantina.

I'm baaaaaack
And it looks like I'll be going again.
