Thread: Holo-Records: A Musician (and Dancer, to some extent) Suggestion

Essentially, a Musician, Dancer, or groups consisting of one or both professions will go to a theater. They'll go up to the stage, and perform a routine. When they finish, they can talk to an NPC in the theater, and ask him to make a holo-record for them. They'll have to pay a certain amount of money, and from then on whenever they perform in a cantina or theater an NPC named 'XXXX's agent' will spawn. Other players can talk to this agent, and buy (the money going to the entertainer) the holo-record of the entertainer performing. These can be played on a Holo-Player (made by a Master Musician, Master Dancer, or possibly Master Artisan) in scout/ranger camps, and in player buildings.
When played in camps, a holo-image of the entertainer(s) will appear, and give their recorded performance. When it's over, the holo-record will auto-destroy and more will have to be bought. Watching or listening to a holo-record while in a camp will heal Battle Fatigue, and mind wounds (at a slow rate, depending on the level of the entertainer who recorded it, and the type of camp).
The holo-record can be also played in player buildings from a larger holo-player. They'll play whenever someone enters a house, and can be set to loop (paying extra credits for each loop) for as long as someone's in the house. Whenever a record is played, the entertainer gets XP, just as though they were playing normally. One thing I thought of was having Master Artisans make the actual holo-records, but decided against it, because I think it would focus more on the entertainers if it was purchased from an NPC

Anyone have any comments?

Sounds neat, but would be hell to code or actually do

Maybe if it were just a sound recording it would be feasible. You could go to a theater and ask the NPC to record you and your group. After you stop the recording ends and the price is however long the song was times a multiplier for how many people/droids are in the group. He'll also bring up a text box asking you to name the song.

After paying you're given an unlimited use schematic to use in equipment factories. It makes Holo-Records with a title that you give it through the NPC. Then anyone can play the Holo-record through their inventory for personal use or plug it in to an architect-craftable Holo-player in a house for everyone in a 30m radius to hear. The Holo-player would require musician-crafted components much like entertainer droids.

Also, our Dancer brothers and sisters could play off your Holo-image idea and make little holo-dances in the same manner. But the holos would have to be very low-detail and simple...

The only reason I see it wouldn't happen: would be able to grant double xp. The Entertainer could gain the xp for the holoperformance and for performing at the same time. I can see the devs saying a big NO to this.

At first, I would have been against this suggestion, but when you mentioned that the Ent that recorded the track would get the xp and credits, and it was a very limited use item... i warmed to the idea.

I'm just dubious of those who would crank these out and flood the market, ensuring that people only used these and not live performers.

I think we have enough automated entertainers without making them official. Limited use or not I don't like giving a tool to make AFK buffing easier. It already a problem with people massing huge amounts of the best resources to produce unbelievable numbers of top notch gear. I could see someone making thousands of a recording of a schematic.

to make it a bit better for some how about doing it where the ent gets little xp for making and some creds but when used get very low or no xp apon use but make it more of a money maker for them

It still means I could record myself once, make hundreds of copies in a factory run, and completely remove the need for a live Ent. That isn't a win-win situation.

I've been selling holo-albums for almost a year.

Of course, mine are just renamed flora detectors, but they sold rather well as decorations.

If anyone didn't know already...I'm all for holorecordings. I think they are the best thing since sliced bread and I wish we had them. I also know I'm in the minority, though.

I would make some qualifications. I don't think they should be used for healing. I really do believe that the shortage of entertainers for healing is a myth, and that there will never be a time when there isn't at least one novice entertainer ready, willing, and able to heal in a public Cantina.

Buffs, on the other hand, that's what I believe these should be used for. I don't feel the need to force people to watch us live. I believe there are plenty of people who would still need to visit the Cantinas for healing, social, and RP. As it stands, live entertainers are useless for buffing because of the buffbots. I would *much* rather be competitive by being able to make some holorecordings to sell to the general public. I look at buffing as our money maker, and I frankly, don't need someone to have to be there to boost my ego in order to sell a buff.

The qualification I would make with this is that it shouldn't be a factory schematic or have anything to do with crafting. It should be done exactly how the playback droids and dual wave synthesizers work. You put your droid to record, you record for 3.5 minutes (or however long it takes you for a full buff), you take the disc out and you go put it on a vendor. You can't make hundreds a day. You can only make as many in 23 hours as it can physically take you to make if you were doing that many buffing sessions live. It's healthy, fair competition where we would actually be able to enter the market again. (providing this can't be completely macro'ed!). I will have an audience during my normal Cantina work because of heals, social, and rp. I don't *need* it for buffing. So, yes, I consider holo recordings to be an all around win win situation.

Your suggestion adds more restrictions and I can see that as working. However, depending on how they implemented the droid radial for this new recording deviceit could be 100% macroed.

Right. The bots would create mass amounts of their recordings to give out freely to their friends. This would keep them alive and in business after the macro nerf.

It would make things more convenient for those looking for healing/buffs during off peak hours. However, even during those hours, there are live performers available for those who take the time to look.

Its a good idea but i think it would hurt things more than it helped.

I'd prefer to see ideas get implemented that kept the person who plays the entertainer involved. In some ways this could possibly turn musician into a crafting profession.

I personally want to add more things that promote the social aspect of the game.
