I was sitting in a cantina crafting small glasses, listening to the default music. The music you hear from the movie when Luke walks into the cantina and is told to leave his droids outside. I love Star Wars music. This thought then occurred to me. Why not let Musicians play it. This is how I think it could be done.
Each song would have specific requirements.
They would need to be played in a band, and the band would need to have a minimum member number specific to that song.
Each song would also have to have specific types and numbers of instruments.
The more popular the song, there more band members needed. The Imperial March and the Star Wars Theme I would suspect, as being the most popular, so they would require 20 band members and possibly every member would require a different instrument.
What do you think?

I think there'd be some tricky coding issues, but it's a nifty idea
.
FWIW, some of our songs are based off the movie songs, but they're twiddled around a bit so that every flourish comes back to a 'happy place' in the music, so that any flourish can follow any other, and probably with the intention that any two flourishes would sound ok together (harder to do, and less successful). That's why you won't find key changes in the songs we play with the infrastructure we have now.
I'm not sure how I would resolve the coding issues with this idea (what happens if someone playing runs out of action / puts away their instrument / leaves the group / enters combat, etc.). Perhaps once you've satisfied the starting requirements (instruments, number of people, etc.), the song will play through its 'entirety' as long as some less stringent requirements are maintained (perhaps as little as 'one person's still playing, and the group stays at least half as big as when it started').
I know I get frustrated sometimes that my flourishes can't do that one part of the song I like to hear

I swear that StarWars3 music is a Jazz Version of the Imperial March!

I've actually mentioned a similar idea to the devs, on one of the occasions when I pointed them to our "brainstorming" thread here. I'd love to see some songs with not only a minimum band size but even a chorus! Y'know, like for the tune on Lok, Duel of the Ancients is it called?
BTW, the cantina music Orryhazard mentioned is Star Wars 2, no? The "cantina song." And yes, Star Wars 3 is like a drunk version of the Imperial march.

Its similar to starwars2, I like the classic version (not the one that we can play) a lot better though.

I think it would be great idea to add in some sort of command and quest type deals that allow you to play the real star wars tunes while in different places.
First you do the quests to be able to play the tunes and then as long as everyone in the band can play that song (and any other criteria are met) then you have the option of playing it instead of one of our predetermined tunes. Of course this means no flourishes etc. but to hear sweet full game music controlled by players would be awesome!!!

Maybe it would be a good idea to add more criteria.
The theature is not used very often. I noticed that alot of the starports have stages set for playing music in front of them. Alot of them have speakers and microphones as well.
It would be great if this is where youhave to play these types of songs. Make it so you do not have to /listen to hear the songs. Make it so the songs come out of the speakers and it becomes the background music. If you /listen a band member or the speaker, the music becomes louder.

The "problems" of "(what happens if someone playing runs out of action / puts away their instrument / leaves the group / enters combat, etc.) " are easily solved.
* Someone playing runs out of action.
Let no action is drained to play this way, and of cause do not provide any healing or buffing earthier.
* Someone puts away their instrument.
Stop the music.
* Someone leaves the group.
Stop the music.
* Someone enters combat, etc.
Stop the music.
It would be a gait feature for events, something purely theatrical and RPish. And if speaker system was ever implemented for us I bet many combat events would love to have a band play some inspirational music. (say "duel of the fates" at a combat tournament, or "the imperial theme" for a group of imperials preparing for a raid.)
