True - you do not have to be a master musician, or dancer to buff folks. Novice Musicians and Dancers can both buff to varying degrees. Your buffs get better as you progress up the appropriate tree...see FAQ above for details.

"Buffing" is using the Mind Enhancement skill. You get 20 points of that at Novice Musician/Dancer. The rest of the points are in the Techniques line and Master. Someone who's gone all the way up the Techniques line has 75 points in Mind Enhancement. That adds 75% of the target's base stat (mind/focus/willpower) if they are 'buffed'.

Thing is, the speed at which the full duration buff (2 hours) takes to apply is based on the song/instrument (or dance) that's performed while buffing.

I have NO clue how dancing works. I danced for two hours in beta and couldn't stand the lapdance comments, so the only time I've ever danced since then was if I was working on Master Entertainer.

In the case of music, if you're playing either any song on theNarlagon, or Virtuoso on any instrument, a full-strength'active' (/setperform) buff can be applied in 6 minutes. A passive group buff can be done in 8 minutes. That's if you're double-flourishing once a time tick (every 10 seconds). I don't know how long you would have to play to acheive the full buff duration with other instrument/song combos. Unless I could get a lot of guinea pigs who would actually give me feedback on when their buffs expired, I can't think of a way to figure it out. But then, I'm horrible at metrics.
