Any body know if turning on a microphone has any in game use?

I've yet to have it happen again, but...
this one time about 8 monthsagoin Theed, I was playing at the stage. I turned on the speakers and the mic. Some guy in full armor wanders over, then starts circling in front of the stage, then stops.
He says outloud, "What the hell? How come I can hear you but I didn't listen to you???"
He then ran away, while I was filled with immense excitement that I'd somehow gotten the stage to work. So I couldn't work with him to figure out what the heck was going on.
So, maybe somehow they do work, and make our sound ambient? I thought there was some feedback issues with them (just like a real mic and speakers).
But, that one guy most definitely said he could hear me without listening to me. I've monkeyed with the stupid mics and speakers ever since.

If I recall, it gathers wandering NPC's who will clap for you... but that could just be an unconnect coinsidence...
Another theory, is that it makes our music ambient, but this one too is unproven.

When I play in the middle of the cantina or even waiting for a shuttle, the NPC's will randomly walk up and start the listening animation, sans microphone or speakers. I have a feeling that at the moment, turning the mic on is as functional as the "Use" option on gambling tables.

Unfortunately no. It is supposed to enable the speakers in some way and either extend the range where you can hear us or make our music environmental. It is bugged and getting no resources to fix it so has been disabled.

From what I have read, it did work in beta butcould cause real feedback so they had to disable it.
Now if only we had electric Mandos to cause feedback on purpose
