Just finished up TK Master last night *cheer* and used my next holocron... and it said master musician.. which is why I am here
Started playing last night, and I was actually having fun just chatting with everyone in the cantina and making fun of myself for being such a n00b in the profession. I am almost tempted to actually play the profession out instead of doing the "grind" that appears to have become the norm. It's a nice change from the buff /mission / mission / mission.. bah... heh
I guess I just have a few questions about the profession...
- Is there any way to gain decent exp outside of the cantina? Is it worth it to run the entertainer missions?
- Are there any "rules" for being in an entertainer group? Things that the group will defiantly not like?
- Any suggestions for a new musician? Things you wish you knew before you started?
Thanks a lot!

WE ALL HATE YOU!
Just kidding.
Well, I'll start by saying please don't put in shouts in your macros asking for tips, or asking for invites, or whatever. AFK is cool with me when people are grinding, but that spamming stuff gets annoying to the people who aren't afk--and y'know, it never works. Also, put a /join at the top of your macro. That way, you'll get grouped if/when you're afk. You can just stick around the "one" cantina that has all the entertainers, wherever it is for your server (usually in Theed or Coronet). You get the best experience with the best instrument you can play, so I recommend going up the line that gives you new instruments and songs first. In my server's "main" cantina, we got all kinds of people doing wacky things to give you healing exp, wounding their minds in various ways. It's probably quickest to find a place like that. There's this thread for more on this kind of thing.
Anyway, you could take time out from the grind to travel around a bit, actually play the profession, see what fun you can have. Who knows, once you get Jedi you might actually want to go back to this profession as a way to socialize with people... because I hear grinding Jedi can be pretty lonely. So wouldn't it be cool to be a Jedi, and when you get bored go fire up your musician to actually interact with people again? Once in a while try travelling around for the hell of it, finding out of the way places where people might need heals. If you really want tips, that's how it's done. If a guy has to come all the way back to the "main" cantina from wherever he was, he ain't gonna tip. But if that guy finds you in a deserted cantina on Lok, you can expect a tip. But it's a social profession, try grouping before you do that.
A lot of hologrinders have said entertaining is "hell." Then I've heard other's say it can be a "blast." I can attest to the latter, but you gotta find others to make it that.

heh.. thanks for the info ![]()
And just FYI, I HATE THE AFK ENTERTAINERS WITH THE STUPID "TIP ME!" "HEAL ME" MACROS.. k, I feel better now.
I was actually having fun just blasing away on my slitherhorn.... although I was tempted to take it to Dantooine and beat quenkers over the head with it.... some things just never change..
I'm actually going to try playing the profession first... its actually kinda fun. But trust me... if I decide I hate it and just want to grind it out... I'll do so in my basement .. even if its not the "best" way to do so. I refuse to become a spam bot!

hehe, ya I know what you mean, I kill quenkers and then jam out all the time in the ol' Pirate outpost. But hell, if I was on the Jedi Quest, I'd AFK it, no question, just wouldn't be annoying about it. It'll take a long time, long road, if you want to stay at the keyboard, eh. But if you do it that way... you're one dude who deserves Jedi, all I gotta say.

I recently created a gude to helping new entertainers with the profession in the entertainer forum. Its called "Charm Forum," and it includes some good tips from all over the community to gain success in a very different profession than what players are used to.
