Hey all I wanted to come in and first let you all know as primarily a combat player, I really had no clue what it is you all go through day in and day out. How cheap people are and how they don't tip you despite the fact that the use your services left and right. If anything positive came out of my being a musician ( I will get the mastery badge today) it is that I now understand what it is to be an entertainer and just how easy it is to be a combat prof. My proverbial hat is off to you career musicians.
The first observation I made was that people don't tip no matter if your afk or not. I never afk'd btw although sometimes the afk flag was put on me as I stared at the screen =/. A couple of times people would ask me for healing and I would go out of my way to help them just to see if they tipped me or even offered to tip me and all 5 times I got nothing. I must say I was VERY disappointed in that. I started thinking about whatI woulddo to fix this situation and could come up with only one solution. I believe this class needs to default to a denial of service to every person. Instead healing needs to be done manually using the set perform. When peoplewait, they will realize that this is a service as much as it is a profession and i think it would add a bit more realism to the game.If the person doesn't tip then next time the musician has the ability to not grant his services to the cheapskate and thereby make that person reassess his or her own attitudes towards the musician in question.
The second observation was that this class was actually a heck of alot of fun at parties and events. I was really surprised just how much I actually enjoyed it when at a wedding last night and I was able to use ventriliquism to make the bride and groom "sparkle." I only wish I could throw other affects onto various players. Many people told me afterwards that this was something new to them and one person said it was a "really neat touch."
The third observation is the Mandovial rocks! Of all the intruments the mandovial is the best and the animations rule! Of the songs nothing beat cermonial and I think that the musician songs need a bit of work to make them more interesting. While we are on the topic of songs, I think ballad was supposed to be a slow "dance" song; unfortuantely, I don't think it really lives up to the bill. I would like to see a more romantic type of dance song be made available for occassions like weddings where the participants have gotten novice entertainer and are dancing with each other.
The fourth observation is that the leveling in Musician is way to slow. I am sure that this point would be debatable to many; however, in my opinion (For whatever its worth) I think the devs really should look into doubling the musician xp per tick that the players currently get. I know as a combat class I can easily get upwards of 1.6 -1.8 million xp per day. As a musician I was VERY lucky to get 150k. Another problem with the class was I never got to play songs like waltz because invariably I was forced to group with players who were just entering the profession and my experience depended on them. So we would go eleven hours playing the most basic of songs and really after hour 7 you just turned off the music because you couldn't stand it anymore.
The Fifth observation I made was that the Omni box appears to be broke. Whenever you target someone else for instance to do the ventriliquism affect you stop playing. I don't know if this is the case with the nargalon but I am fairly certain this is a bug that should be looked into and fixed.
Well those were some observations I made as a profession grinder hoping and praying to unlock his FSCS before the change in the system. I wanted you all to know that surprisingly I really enjoyed my stay here at times and when I leave I will have one heck of alot of respect out there for the people who choose this profession as a career.
My thanks to the wonderful musicians who have shared the journey with me in Starsider,
Natanial Storm

Thank you, Natanial. I'm sorry I missed your company; I can't stand going into the Coronet Cantina anymore. Believe me, your kind words are appreciated.
Yes, you're right about tips. Especially in Coronet, which is where I'm assuming you got your Master's degree in Music. In order to get tips, you have to play in other venues, and even that's a crap shoot. I've even had people ask for Master level musical mind enhancement (buffs) and then just walk off when they got what they wanted. Not many, but it's happened. We'll see how this goes after the questable FSCS comes into play and there aren't hordes of macro-bots everywhere.
I've thought for a very long time that Entertainer healing should have to be actively targetted, like using medical stims. Even that, though, is macro-able. But I think it would really wake up all those combatants who think they're entitled to use us like kleenex and not even say 'thank you,' either verbally or monetarily. Right up until they all buy second accounts to make Master Doctor/Musicians to buff and heal themselves.
Player events can be a blast to play at, especially if there are folks there who know enough about music or dance to request something specific. I use Ventriloquism to highlight who I'm performing a set piece for, when I do mind enhancements.
I've always thought the Mandoviol was the coolest instrument in the batch. I really love the Bandfill too, thank goodness, because I've given up Master Entertainer (for the third time
) in order to pursue other things. My favourite songs are Ceremonial, Waltz, Ballad and Folk. Jazz is nice, too. Virtuoso is too much like Jazz for me, and the others I either don't really like...or have heard way too much of. I turned my Player Music off some time ago. Pretty scary, huh? I'm a career musician, but I don't listen to the music anymore. And yes, the Ommni Box works that way by design. So does the Narlagon. You have to keep them targetted at all times. If you're really quick, you might be able to get off a /vent on someone and re-target, but generally I just stick with hand-held instruments to avoid the hassles.
I'm glad you had some fun, and thank you for actually playing the class while you went through it. I think that might have been the idea with the whole method of unlocking the FSCS, but unsurprisingly most people didn't get it.
If you need your focus/willpower enhanced, look me up. Happy hunting to you, and good luck.

The box isn't a bug, and it's on the nala too. You can't untarget them unless you do it REALLY fast.
Despite the necessity, I think the nala will take to me more than the mando, though it's a close race.
