Why dont they use actual star wars songs ??
We should be able to play Duel of Fates or the love song in ep 2. We should be able to play that **edit**..
anyone else agree ??

The problem with that is that we wouldn't do much active playing. I mean... If you want the actual songs each one would just be one long soundfile with no variations (flourishes).
If you want variations of actual Star Wars songs, we've got a few. Star Wars 3 contains parts of the imperial march, Star Wars 2 contains parts of the cantina music from ANH etc.
I'd like to be able to play the original Max Rebo bandsong though, that one rocks!

That's not how it would work. The whole song would require flourishes to be played in a specific order. Without flourishes it would just be one part of the song repeated over and over. If we had, for example, the 'Cantina Band Song' from Episode IV, you'd get a basic snippet of thetune (non-flourish) and a bunch of flourishes that you could use in order to recreate the whole tune. Then you could mix and match for a sort of freeform arrangement. That's how the current songs work. You can't play one of the current songs without flourishing - it just plays the same short 5-second-longsnippet over and over. You need to put flourishes together to get arecognisable tune.

Yes, but it's most likely a nightmare to turn these songs into SWG songs because of the 5-second flourishes. They would have to make sure that the songs could be butchered up in 5 second snippets for each of the instruments avaliable and still sound good. Also, they have to make sure the different instrument snippets all sound semi-decent together and when doing flourishes. Besides, they would have to be able to fit all the instruments in there too. I bet it can be hard to find a place for the mandoviol or nalargon in the cantina song, for example.So, if you want the actual song it would have to be just one long soundfile with player controlled variations.

If you count carefully on the current songs you'll notice a timing error anyway. So you can make things easier by just ignoring the timing so long as it sounds good to the majority of people who listen. (Besides, a lot of people don't even listen to the songs, they just have winamp running in the background and turn off player music
)

But the songs we perform now are most likely'real songs' that were cut down using the same method. They probablyweren't made in separate5-second pieces. Heck, give me a relatively simplecomputer program that can separate out the instruments (usually when they're recorded the instruments are already recorded on different tracks)and have that program able to digitally manipulate andcopyparts of songs and I couldhave a base tune with 8 flourishes readyin a couple of hours. Music is written in bars, and you get a certain number of bars in acertain timeperiod. You figure out which bits to separate and you do it. They don't need to be exactly the same length - you merely have to get the timing right when playing them back. I guarantee it could be done relatively easily even by an amateur like me. The cantina band song, for example,is quite simple, and lends itself to this approach.
