Thread: Musicians/Dancers/entertainers need a combat type support skill

Ok, Dancers/musicians can't buff themselves, they can only heal/buff people when they come back from quests/or stop at a tent.

On quests like Death Watch Bunker, and Corvette, this is not possible. Infact, it makes them completely useless, and Mind always gets other players killed, even fully buffed, mind is what hurts.

Why not give them a perk? Give dancers/musicians some type of ability to heal other's mind. during combat. Heck, give it to squad leaders if ya like too...something useful...

How about the ability to scream/cheer people on during the fight which will heal their mind? Maybe like an area mind heal from just hearing your singing/shouting?

Maybe have a musician play a war drum as they march into battle (during the battle) that will heal mind and keep moral up?

We need more than just jedi/combat medics that can heal mind. It's not too fun to realize you're dying and can do nothing to stop it. Not even spice/foods can help when you're time is coming.

Maybe even give them a heal pack for mind that only musicians/dancers can use? It will give people a reason to be a dancer/musician/ent more than they have now. Right now they're nothing more than buff/healbots. Give them some combat life.

And while we're at it, give them the ability to buff themselves as well as others. That's not too fair for the work that we/they go through to get to where they are.

That's my gripe.

I would not like seeing dancers and musicians turned in to bards...
I do not thing we should have a direct combat role. Our current role of helping the combat class cope with the stress of fighting so they can get out there again is good enough, and our buffs does help then prepare better.
The real problem is that compared to the doctor buffs ours are somewhat weak. And as you mentioned CM can heal mind if it is necessary, people just have to se as something other then the equivalent of a tactical nuke in PvP, and start using other benefits the a AoE mind poised/disease.

Any new abilities should be one that will enhance our role as entertainers, this that will help us actuarially entertain other players (even things that do not provide any combat powers).

Why not use some element of the traditional bard in music/dancer? The obvious onewould be to have some sort of crowd control ability similar to the bard orminstrel mesmerise ability or basically a targetable warcry

As it is at the minute entertainers miss out on all the high end content as they are just not useful to a group.

Personally, I LOVE the fact that there is no crowd control in this game. I like seeing pitched battles between scores of people, I don't want to see a group fighting one at a time while the rest are standing there sleeping. Very boring.

In any event, there's plenty of skill points left over after picking up musician, dancer or ID to take up and master a combat profession. Noone says we all have to be 100% entertainer.

I'm on the side against making entertainers direct combatants as well. It's like saying "A chef misses out on the fighting, so give them the ability to fight with a frying pan" or something.

A musician isn't a fighter, they're a musician. Ifthey wants to fight, they can pick up a combat skill.

Does this mean they shouldn't have some extra perk if they do decide to fight? Not necessarily. It would set them apart if they had something different about them.

For instance, a musician being certified to play an instrument may be able to use it in combat, maybe a Slithhorn can be used by a Musician / Fencer. A dancer may be able to get some bonuses against KD or something. But these bonuses are indirect and require the other combat classes to bring them out.

Musicians are entertainers, dancers are entertainers. That's my opinion anyway.

The "bards" in this game are the Squad Leaders, actually. How would you feel if Squad Leaders started asking if they could heal battle fatigue and buff minds?

It would be nice to have some kind of specific role for the Entertainers when out with the guild on a hunt or something. Not necessarily combat but like something that is actually useful in the camp or somesuch. Healing Mind wounds is nice but it tends to not be a huge deal in the days of Brandy and Autobuffs.
