"Instead of ruining the class for those who go AFK, we should all be encouraging SOE to MAKE THE FRIGGIN' CLASS MORE ENTERTAINING FOR THOSE OF US WHO ARE ATK!!! Do that, and the AFK situation will fix itself." - read in the Musician forum by me.

More entertaining? They should?

Why aren't the ENTERTAINERS who are ATK trying to make it more entertaining?

I never needed to AFK during my working up the Musician tree all the way to Master - I entertained others. I played music, I did a bit of comedy here and there, I talked to them about their bad day out hunting, faction warring, and harvesting. I put a smile on their face or at least made their day a little more interesting or even better ENTERTAINED them.

When I say entertainers, I mean both dancers and musicians. This is OUR problem - a lot of people see us as only in the game to cure battle fatigue and cure mind wounds. On the contrary - WE help provide a lot of content!

WIthout Max Reebo and his band in Jabba's palace, would it have been the same place we all found so neat to watch? How about Figrin Dan and the Modal Nodes in Mos Eisley Cantina? What about Oola the Twilek dancing girl?

Putting up a AFK flag and then adding "psuedo-interactive" chat with /greet and other stuff like that is terrible to the atmosphere. WE help make atmosphere in the cantinas, theaters, and yes even hotels.

If there is any place we as a classin SWG should utterly rule in, it is not PVP - it is SOCIAL INTERACTION. We're the jetsetters, the slick guys and girls who wander into the party and fit in anywhere because we're just that cool. We are the ones who should have the entry choked friends list from past customers and people we've met. Our little black book, as it were.

Get out there and give them a real SHOW, people! C'mon, it's your class job!

I try and make things fun for people too. it really helps, from atmosphere, to Tips, to restoring faith in this profession to those who see it as just a bunch of AFK'ers, or Holo-tainers...

I personally am playing in The City of Coronet, Corellia in the Chilastra Galaxy just because of the XP. I need to get closer to Master Musician, so I can play Full Time in my HOME City of Fide Mea, also on Corellia. (Chilastra)

I think alot of Musicans (the ones that are actually trying to BE a Musician, or Dancer,of course) are doing this as well, getting good in the Big Cities, then moving on into a Player City of their own, to play Full Time there.

Sure, we need more content too, and I think that will be addressed. Now that alot of things have been released of late, all that remains is alot of time to perfect, and enhance the things that are in the Game now.

...I have faith.

Sefen, I'm glad someone is reading these boards...

My quote (which you quoted at the top of your post) was meant to address those who are fixating on the AFK issue as the single most important issue facing entertainers. My response to that is - instead of trying to figure out a way to negatively impact someone else's gameplay experience, we should be focusing on ways to enhance our own. Your suggestion is absolutely one way to go about doing that, and it's one that I try very hard to do. Another suggestion (that should be used in CONJUNCTION with yours, not instead of) is to have SOE provide more to the entertainer classes to make them more enjoyable. And it needs to go beyond more flourishes, instruments, and songs. I'd like to see an entertainer playground that ends with being invited to play with Figrin Dan, or a private event held by rebels, or imperials, or neutrals. How cool would it be to run a series of missions for someone and have the final prize being a private audience with the Emperor, or Princess Leah, or Jabba the Hutt?

I'll say it again - we need to stop focusing on how to ruin the experience of the AFK players and start focusing on ways to improve our experience.

As I always say, addition is better than subtraction when talking about having fun. More musical content = more exciting profession = less afk musicians.

I forgot to add my really witty remark.

My little black book has a decent number of people... An even longer list tho, my ignore list has nearly 400 people!

I agree.. we should not try to devise ways to punish AFK'ing but come up with ways to promote one to not AFK.. Granted there are many mule characters that are AFK'ing for guildmembers, especially in player cities.. I have no problem with that, as player cities are normally struggling to keep entertainers..

Currently there are3 main reason why an entertainer is /afk for prolong periods of time..

  1. They are a mule character being used to supply /afk healing at a location for interested guildmembers or city residence to use.. I have NO problem with this reason

  2. They are simplying macro'ing to get to master as fast as they can so they can stop and enjoy the class and remain an elite enterainer.. This person still wants to be a musician, and will even remain to be one even if afk'ing wasn't in the game.. They are simply taking advantage of the system, not meaing to be harmful about it

  3. They are holochasing and macro'ing as fast as they can, only to move onto their next master profession..

Personally.. I would like to see the "exp" skills to be defaulted to zero the moment a person goes /afk rather it was volunterly or involunterly.. This would still allow /afk'ing , but no longer can be used to gain exp while sleeping or working thru they day..

However, I would still like to see more content and reason for people to become entertainers beyond the novice level.. I might be guessing, but I would say that less then 50% of the elite entertainer profession even want to be that.. Most are just doing what the holo told them and then moving on..
