Thread: Question for cantina owners.
I personally only think it's a good idea if you know you'll have the staff to keep someone in there at all times. If you don't, people will go elsewhere for their entertainment.
I think it would help immensely if we could educate the combat classes on the ease of using the Planetary Map to see if a Cantina has at least a Novice Musician or Dancer in-house.
Absolutely this is a great regulation to have, but I would give every entertainer who came in the warning that if they are AFK for more than x number of minutes, they will be evicted. This would only be fair. And, as was said, make sure you have someone in the cantina at all times so people will learn that it can be counted on for heals anytime.

I think it's ok to ban them... but you should realize that if you don't have very many ents......... this will not be in your best interest......... might want to wait until you have more ents to work with........ if you do ban them it should only be for like a week or two then let them try again........ and tell them if they have a good reason for going afk or for just a minute then to /afk and say why and how long.........
good luck
I think its a fine rule, but AFK and macro allows you to have the place 'staffed' 24*7 where live play may not - so I would maybe set ground rules on times when AFK is permitted - but make it clear you Cantina is not a grinding shop

Let me ask you this from other perspectives.
Would you rather have no entertainers or 2 AFK ones in your cantina?
If you were a player in need of healing would you care if the person healing your mind wounds was really there or not?
If you were a novice musician learning the craft would you ever want to hang around a place that kicked you out because you had to go to the bathroom once?
I play most of the evening most every day and go AFK regularly to take phone calls and wash dishes, switch laundry loads, put my daughter in the tub, fix dinner, put her to bed etc. Judging by the tips I often find upon returning the patrons didn't mind my absense too much as long as I wiped out their BF and wounds.
Ideally yes you want players there to make it more fun but I'd let a musician go AFK back in the corner of the stage, particularly if they were the only one in the house
But the Prime entertainment spots on the stage belong to live performers. It's unfair to take the audience's attention away from someone who is actually working.
If you're AFKing, You get a little leeway on the off chance you've gone to feed the cat or are visiting the little entertainers room but if it's excessive you will be evicted.
Makes it amusing when you have a row of dancers performing outside the cantina.
I have a rule that AFK is not allowed in my cantina. I'd even go so far as using militia powers to enforce this rule. (Back when the miltiia had power at least.)
I'd logged in my cantina on Wed and when I logged in yesterday, I found the place quite lively with entertainers and people watching. I joined in the band and we had a full band going (Meaning one of each instrument sound, not 20 people in group.) This isn't that out of the ordinary for my place. It's all how you present it. I've been a bit lucky that I'm in a city that's been established since just a few weeks after the server was brought up.
As to allowing AFK at off hours.. People are complaining about healing xp for entertainers. Well part of the problem is you have just single or small groups of entertainers spread out across the entire galaxy. Maybe half the PAs have a heal bot in their PA hall. A few people have cantinas they staff AFK so the city can get their healing. Each one of these places takes a little away from the healing xp of the group of entertainers elsewhere. Sure, it may only be a few hundred points, but if the person would just go to coronet where there is a full group, that would be a few hundred points to 20 people, making it more like a few thousand points gained by entertainers, instead of a few hundred gained by a heal bot who may already be a master anyway.
It won't kill people to go find somewhere else to go heal. Nor will it kill your cantina. Mine isn't staffed 24/7 but it's only been getting more and more use. People don't need their healing spoon fed to them when it isn't hard to find entertainers in the first place. I don't think I've ever seen a timewhen there were no entertainers on at least thebig 3 planets. Besides, if you really do have such a good spot for xp, you won't have a problem getting people there.
