LucasArts' Torres said another 10 songs will be added to the game in a few months, and players will have more freedom to compose then. Musicians will be able to manipulate blocks of music and harmonize components to show their musicianship. The blocks will fit together "kind of like a Lego system," he said.

My worry is this:

This was an article in Wired...not truly a gaming mag that knows about the current system. My thought is that the "Lego(TM)" system that they are referencing is the system already in place with 8 flos that can be "Lego(TM)ed" into a song. Am I wrong in thinking this or am I just an Uber-pessimist.

Also, I think its ironic that in an article referencing copyright that they freely invoke a trademark that neither Sony or Lucasarts owns. Yes "Lego(TM)" is universal and easy to understand, but they could have said "building blocks". So I guess I'm a trademark cop today....fitting as they are being the copyright police.

"The role of musicians in the game is to help other players recover from battle fatigue and lift their spirits. Combatants visit a cantina to listen to music and receive a "buff," which gives them added mental strength. "

That is also in the same artical. the date of it is June 06,2005.

We still give a buff to mental strength?

Because ofthe date of this artical at Wired news and the information they posted in the artical I will not hold my breath. I wish they (the producers) would tell the players that pay for the game this information and not have us locate it on some web site and wonder.

It soundsto good to be true. I have my fingers crossed!

That thought had occured to me as well.

And as someone else pointed out, why is it that very often we first have to read about any dev plans for SWG (and not just related to entertainers) in external publications? Now provided this quote by Mr Torres really reflects their current planning, imagine that this is actually something they want to implement... Just how much would it do for lifting everyone's spirits and morale in here (and we sure need that after the CU) if the Developers could actually be bothered to come in here and let us know first if it affects us? So why don't they?

Sure, somebody will probably say right now "But if they came in here and made announcements, no matter how clearly they'd say that this was only a plan and that plans can change, lots of people would still be angry if they didn't follow through".

And that's correct to a point, however: I find it rather insulting to automatically assume that most of your customers cannot understand a clear statement like "This is something we'd like to do, but we cannot promise it, it could still change." And also, at some point that "Plans can change, especially in an MMORPG" argument becomes tiresome. Sooner or later you will have to stick to your plans, provided you have them. Or are they so chaotic thatthey just implement whatever strikes them as a cool thing in the morning, no matter what they decided in the previous evening?

Oh well, let's just say that as encouraging as these news sound, I'll believe it when I see it, not one moment earlier.

on the lots of people would be angry my answer would be... isn't that where they already are? They have nothing to loose, however, based on the alpha test "," i'd say that it is simply that they are not that competent. They clearly are out of touch with their customer A, and have no idea on how to comunicate B. Also based on that experiance and the fact that they yanked the 1.5yr developed CU to make a new one in a few weeks, I would say that no, they do not have clear plans.

soo, this would be sort of like what they have at 'cokemusic.com'. they give you sets of guitar chords, or drumbeats and you put them together. i suggest people try it to practice if it comes.
