Thread: Okay, this pisses me off about AFK musicians in particular
lets hope that they will fix it already i have had too many rants about this already :/
Well, you can stop a band anytime by using /stop command ( /stopband if fact) and then, the afker should have a start music macro running or do a /startband.
I feel very sorry when people ask to group with me and leave the group because I play too high music for them, without saying it or usually without waiting for my /stopmusic command... I like to stop music with /stopmusic but of course it takes some times (10 -20 s...)
You can use /stop without being the bandleader. Of course don't abuse of it...
Gaptia
If you find yourself in the same situation again, don't despair, go and have a little fun with it. Definitely do what Gaptia suggests and do a /stopband and then /startband with a song that is appropriate to your level of musicianship. If you get one of those wily afk macro people that has a short macro that loops them to start their highest song in it then don't worry, try doing a /changebandmusic to your song and then see if you can't do a /bandflo or two.
Is this fair to the AFK macro players? No, it isn't, but since they have left their character there, you should have some fun as well as get the best benefit you can from their absence...you are the one working hard, not hardly working. I know that sounds harsh to the people not at the keyboard, but it is my own personal opinion and that is all.
Congrats again on getting that next level in Musician and keep on rocking Berry! And I hope what Gaptia and I suggest helps out a little in the future if you find yourself in the same type of situation.
"you joined someone else's group, and it sounds like you expect them to jump through hoops for you. Don't join a group expecting them to play down for your benefit, you are the new comer there."
But there was only one musician, and he was AFK. If there was more than one musician, I could see your point, but I was the only at-keyboard musician in the group. It's hardly a case of expectingother musiciansto jump through hoops if there's nomusician there in the first place.
Just my useless opinion here but...
If your the only active musician there... then your driving. period.
/changebandmusic <whatever you want your drivin> ![]()
Just please dont just join a band and not ask.
I'm an active musician and we also have times where I'm playing and a new player will simply join and change over. Just ask first.
Some will also start playing before joining and when they join their not playing what we are. I count this poor form
and when we ask their highest tune they just go right on playing with no replies. My reply then is changebandmusic
afk people do not belong in bands anyway![]()
Today I went intomy localcantina (Coronet)to get XP, hoping to get level 1 musician knowledge (I was only a few hundred points away). There was a guy there playing Folk (this is a fellow who can oftenbe seen playing all day and all night AFK) butIthought he might be awake andImight be able to get the training. Of course, because he's playing folk I couldn't play, so I asked him if he could change for a few minutes until I leveled. But, of course, he was AFK.
So I couldn't play in the group to maximise XP. The GL (strangely)wouldn't kick him, presumablybecause his contribution to the group was greater than mine, and even if I did go off on my own to get the XP, the guy couldn't train me anyway, 'cos he's AFK.
Anyway, I went back a few hours later, and he's not AFK anymore. I got my training from him (I usually tip 1000 credits for training, but not this time) and then 10 minutes laterhe stops the band and tells me todo adance or something else'cos he wants to play a solo!!! So I left and went to Theed - got lots of XP there, no AFKers, and no one asking me to jump through hoops so that they can play selfishly!
I wish the developers would get something done about the AFK situation. I sat on the fence about this issue, because as a dancer (the first profession I tried) I figuredit didn't really affect anyone, other than allowing cheapskates to get free mind heals from AFKers, but now I've started to learn music, it's clear that musicians are affected a lot more by this than dancers are.
((Just FYI, you may have to do a /stopmusic and then /startmusic when you do the /startband command, since it seems that person that executes it won't actually jump into the music although they are animated as if they are.))
The /changebandmusic command makes the band switch from one song to another without any pause in between, nice if you are doing a medley of songs. However, sometimes some of the musicians do get stuck on a different song than what you changed it to so be careful (ie. playing SW3 when you changed it to Ballad), if it does happen and they are afk the only thing to do is have them booted from the group at that point.
Have fun Berry and keep on playing!
