Thread: How to maximize xp?
You do get more xp at higher levels, but that's mostly just because you need more for the next level.
To get your best xp, first play either your highest song or your highest instrument. Your friend may be getting more xp from playing a kloo horn. Second, do two flourishes per tick, this puts you at your max xp. Finally, if someone does /bandflourish, only the person giving the command gets xp, no one else in the band does. If you're worried about spending action points on flourishes you're not getting anything from (other than looking good), you can do "/band off" to reject receiving band flourishes.
Some other xp tips: you get an extra 1 or 2 xp per tick for each other active performer in the group (even dancers). You also get a bonus point or two xp for each audience member /listening to you (or to your group). And if someone does a /clap, /applaud, or /cheer for you, you sometimes get a bump in xp.
Depend if you want to sound good/have a medic or maximize XP/HAM cost
OK, here's how it basically works:
- You get experience every 10 seconds
- The level of song you play matters. Play the most advanced song you can
- The level of instrument you use matters. Buy the best instrument you can use if you can't make it yourself yet.
- You get more experience for using 2 flourishes int he 10 second period than you do for using 1.3 is not better than 2.
- Once you get the maxium amound from 2 flourishes in a row, the exp gain will slowly tick down. So you might get 20 in the first tick, 19 in the second tick, 17 in the third tick, 16 in the fourth tick, etc.
This leads to a couple of different strategies. When you have healing support, you can just do 2 flourishes every 10 seconds. This will keep you at max exp consistently. Alternatively, you can do 2 flourishes, let your exp max periodically and tick down for a while, then do 2 more flourishes to bump it back up to max. This reduces max potential exp, but your action will be far less so you can keep this up much longer if you don't have major healing support. Experiment to see what you can do without stopping to rest.
You can also heal yourself of course (if you have novice medic). You have to stop playing, and you can heal yourself with either stims (faster) or using /tend (free). /tend causes mind wounds which your playing will heal so it truly is free (though not as effective as a good stim-B).
Anyway, your exp will pick up as you get better songs and better instruments. Don't worry about the 5 exp/tick, though you may be able to tweak your flourishes to help.
