Thread: Are you not getting the tips you deserve?

I have two dancers, at the moment. One is named Lola, who is on Sunrunner, and just recently made Novice Dancer. As her combat profession, I'm shooting to become a Fencer. My other dancer is named Katih, who is on Valcyn, and is also a medic. She's still an Entertainer, but she's come a long way as a medic. My plans for Katih are for her to be the ultimate healer, by becoming a Master Dancer/Master Doctor.

But I've noticed something...no one really tips. Lola, who has obviously had the most play-time, has made less than 10k creds, in tips. (Were it not for the generosity of other entertainers, my tips would probably total less than 5k...but my own fellow entertainers have helped me along.) Katih has made a few tips, from entertainers, for her throwing heals around. Dancing, however, has made her nothing in tips.

So, I'm making this proposition: let us organize a full entertainer strike. We should all go on strike, for 24-48 hours. If you desperately need the experience, dance privately in your home or PA hall or a friend's home and let only those closest to you have access to you, during the strike. For everyone else, we need to let them know that we rely on their tips. I know that I'm not the only one out there who has gone for the dancer/doctor combo and those of you who have definitely understand that it's a combo that needs money. Do we not deserve the tips? Oh, absolutely! We spend as much time as anyone else mastering our professions, so why should we not stand up and let these people know that we could be doing something else, yet choose to serve them and that we deserve to be tipped?

I introduced the idea to some other entertainers on Sunrunner and have gotten them to start spreading the word. My original idea was to shoot for December 1 and, possibly, December 2, as well. Go the entire 24-48 hours without entertaining at the cantina. Show them just how valuable we are to them and how much they take us for granted. Sure, show up in there...but announce every few minutes that, due to the greed of so many and lack of tips, we are on strike and will not be performing for ANY sum of money, until EVERYONE understands how important our role is to them.

Please, let's hear some feedback. Please, spread the word, as not everyone reads the forums. Let's make this real. Let's take a stand and show the galaxy that they need us as much as we need them!

I'm sorry but I cannot support this. I only had a problem making tips in really crowded cantinas. I did very well on the advanced planets like endor and dath. Now with buffs I'm doing even better. There are good tippers out there.

TIPS ARE HORRIBLE.. I can think of worse things to say about it, but this community doesn't allow for that sort of language. lol

I'm a master musician, but basicly retired from playing for the public, simplybecause as long as you leave TIPS as an optional form of income, entertainers will forever be the poorest of occupations.. right next to droid engineers and BE's.. The missions for a master elite entertainer are a step above delivery missions.. As money becomes tighter and tighter, with the nerf to missions, cost of cloning and insurance, and replacing more decaying items, the first thing that people cut back on is options.. Options being TIPS..

Everyone knows that most combatants come into the cantina were an AFK'er is playing or a small group is playing.. click on to get healed and no one would ever know the difference for the most part.. and slip out the back door without tipping..

I find it amazing that CH'lers can make 100K plus for mounts,, I don't even have close to that amount of money, nor will I.... I don't craft, and I make just barely enough to pay for a house and furnish it.. I still have more to do with it.. I try to travel but paying 3,000 credits for round trip fare to Lok is NOT an option.. For once in my life I actually feel like the " b*stard stepchild" that no one wants.. My second character was going to be a chef.... OK, I'm into punishment.. But I quickly left cheffing once I made it to Novice and realized that it takes 30K+ in skill points to level and only receiving 100 pts per recipe was just insane.. I'm NOT going to click that thing 3,000 combines, just to level making bread.. NO way, NO how..

Don't have problem with tips. I had made once a post on my server forum about it and since I don't have to complain about it.

I am with you for a strike in the Sunrunner galaxy. I'll see what I can do to help organize.I'm just about the only entertainment on Tatooine these days it seems. I can almost definately have the Anchorhead tavern shut down for periods that I play. I could shut it down for a whole day or two if you want to try for a whole weekend instead of weekdays.

I have almost made my first million creds. Tips were never a problem. I no, I don't do lapdances!

You can't force someone to tip you. You have to inspire them to tip you.

I disagree. My dancer has 2.4 million after a few weeks of playing. You are doing something wrong. Maybe interact with the people more. Something simple like target them while they are watching and wink at them. Or if they come in the cantina, say hi or target them and smile. They will notice the personal touch you add and will tip you.

I guess those that are getting tips on other servers are lucky. Perhaps its just Sunrunner that has a problem. I still feel its time to make a stand on the Sunrunner galaxy, tips have gotten far fewer and farther between in theweek leading up to the cities/mounts update. I'm going to take the advice of giving the people of Sunrunner a warning that they need to change their habits.

If they don't like it, and they don't improve, don't expect me to play for free in the starting city cantinas anymore. I can playand get0 credits just as easily in my own home.

good, then you'll find that no one cares because all the AFKers will be plenty to keep the game going, what you need is to limit XP gain in starting cantinasby limiting the full class of dancer to PlayerCity cantinas, that way you can deside on a cover charge with the owner.

I have had no problem with making enough money with tips. The citizens of Naritus seem to be a pretty generous bunch. I have cleared 40k doing parties and about 10k per night that I decide to play in the cantina. All the holotainers have pushed me out of the cantina, just can't take all the (AFK) bobbing around the screen.

All professions are dependent on the other players in a galaxy in order to make ends meet. Consider the following:

Combat

I know several of you are immediately disagree, but please be read everything I have to say.

I think there should be some frank discussion on the tip

The issue of tips has been a problem for 6 months. I wholeheartedly agree that having the primary source of income to a class be an option for other players to pay is not viable. There is ample evidence that some individuals have succeeded in amassing a fortune and others have spent too much time in squalor. To fairly evaluate the tipping situation, the receivers need to be addressed. By
