Thread: You do not have the skill to perform the song the band is playing

simple thing actually. just start playing your instrument with whatever song you can play, then have the invite sent to you. you will join and just be playing whatever song you were playing. it will sound funny mixed with the band if everyone else is playing a differant song, but you can do a /changeband songXX and change the song of the whole band, just make sure no one minds and its all good.

Is there any way to get around this, so I can still get the group xp benefit? Someone in the band I was in mentioned that I could /bandflourishoff and play solo, but that didn't seem to work for me...

ACK! You can't be seriously advocating this?

It sounds like a train wreck! Just play your highest instrument and you will get close to the maximum XP. It may not be 100% (if, and only if, you are at Knowledge I) but it's still pretty close. If the band is playing something else, ask them nicely if they could play XYZ. Bands regularly drop to SW1 and Rock. They're certainly not going to scream about SW3 or Ballad.

I have to say that I've been disappointed lately with the unwillingness of groups to lower their song fora newer player. I have a new musician whose highest song is Folk. She joined a cantina band the other day and was ignored when she asked if the song could be changed. I think all of the musicians may have been afk and none of the dancers had sufficient skill to join and change the song (they were playing ballad). The band leader was not willing to boot the AFK musicians to allow theATK musician to play, but instead suggested that I and another newbie who couldn't play ballad do a group of two if we wanted to play the lower song. At that point I disbanded.

You should be able to do the /stopband command even if you're not playing the song, although you do have to bea member of the group and have at least Novice Entertainer. And if the other musicians are AFK, I feel it's perfectly allowable to "/stopband; /pause 15; /startband Folk".

Of course, when grouped only with AFKers I also think it's allowable to "/stopband; /pause 15;/startband Virtuoso" . Or drink a Tatooine Sunburn (+1800 stamina) and spam/bandflo until they drop from exhaustion. But only when I'm in a bad mood.

Ballads pretty high for a Cantina band. Was lame that they wouldnt let you play.

As a Master in the band at that point I would certainly fix that real easy.

I'd take 1 atk over 19 afk.

And Folks a nice tune

Ummm bad advice truly.

Even as a Master when I get a group invite I stop playing first before I join.

To the original poster... do not use bandflourishes for leveling.

If your flying solo or in a bandalways do your flourishes in pairs about 20 sec apart. Try to use your highest instrument.

When invited to a band and you cant play the tune just ask most times the leader will do a stop and start on a song you can play.

A new Member coming into a band and doing a stop start is extremely poor form.

To me the second posters advice should be dis regarded must be a Holotainer

There is nothing wrong with playing down for lower musicians, I do it all the time...But don't be surprised if I will take my music above your level if you go AFK for longer then 15 minutes... Unless you can convince me that it's a real emergency, but work is no emergency, neither is school or sleep, go logout or stand in the corner so I can entertain the audience the way I want to without being obligated to play lower songs just to accomodate you. Besides, what heals faster me playing Folk or me playing Jazz

Just one other thing... Not every musician played AFK at one point !!

Agree. The higher the song/instrument, the faster the regen rate.

it's quite good form to lower the song to the one everyone can play. If that is starwars 1, then it is. When i was leveling to master i would always take the song to the one everyone could play. For the xp/healing, for a musician, it is made up for by using the higher instrument in the lower song. So ommni on SW1 gives same xp as ommni on jazz- and healing is based on the amount you flourish plus the healing skills of the player.

Its disappointing that the cantina band wouldn't change songs to let you in the group.

i was apparently misunderstood. i did say to start playing first and then join. however, i most certainly did not say to continue playing the song you were playing. i said to immediatly ask if anyone minded if you switched the song. if you got a bunch of no replys (probably b/c of afk'dness) then by all means change the song to your highest song. i see absolutly nothing wrong with this. i myself do some afk grinding, and ill be the first to say, if im not there and people want to switch the song to any other song they feel like playing, than its there choice, and i have no say in it. if im afk then its not up to me weather they play a song i can play or not. i always hope that they do but if not, then ill just have to let my macro run and hope the song gets switched sooner or later so i at least get some xp.

but no, i in no way advocated that it would be just fine and dandy to play away all day on a song totally differant from what the band was playing.

Actually, if you aren't playing, you can't change the song. Maybe if I had disbanded, started playing and then rejoined again I could have. I'll test that out.

if you have a nice selection of instrutments (which means no slitherhorn) bandfill, mando, and a horn with just those three instruments they make SW1 sound very cool =)
