I'm not a master musician yet, so I can't place a cantina structure (and the city I live in is too small anyway). So I'm asking someone who can to tell me what the benefit of placing an actual cantina is, instead of using a public house as a makeshift cantina.
From what I can see, advantages of a house over a cantina:
- Doctors can heal regular wounds there, for simultaneous healing of all 3 wound bars
- Vendors can be placed in it, and customers can browse the vendors while listening
- It can be decorated however the owner likes
Whereas, since I don't know what a player cantina offers, I can only guess:
- You can register your location there
- If it has the distinct 'cantina' shape, players can probably recognize it on the HUD map
- It probably says 'cantina' on the HUD map too
In a main city, cantinas have definition. They're the only place you can heal battle fatigue & wounds. In a player city... what's the point? If the above are the only advantages...
- I've never seen anyone other than another entertainer who knew what the day/night symbols were, let alone checked it or relied on it as an accurate indicator of whether an entertainer was staffing the cantina. Novice entertainers can't register, but they can still heal, so the usefulness of the indicator as a "is somebody in the cantina that can cure my wounds & bf" status light is diminished.
Suggestion: Give novice entertainers the ability to register. People will rely on the indicator more.
- Cantinas are freaking huge, and only about 1/3 of the space is ever used, as all the entertainers crowd the front. Why would you want to go to the back? So... um... *less* people will listen to/watch you?
Suggestion: Make the player cantinas smaller, but with a distinctive shape still, like the bank and med center
- You can place a vendor in the 'house cantina' that says 'Cantina' in the name, or something similar. Then when people look at the HUD map, the vendor name will appear and show them where the cantina is.
Suggestion: Give cantinas a better reason for existing.
I'd propose this, unless someone can tell me why player-city cantinas are better:
- Make your BF & Mind wounds decrease very slowly by just sitting in any cantina. Like the med center.
- Make a cantina benefit the musician too, perhaps something like...
Add a command, like /setperform. Perhaps call it /recognize, or /welcome that only works in an actual cantina. You target a player, then use the command. Provided they listen to you, you get a small amount of credits for however much wounds/BF you healed. Say... 1 cr for every 10 wounds/BF. It's a small amount, but if you're NOT AFK, you get yourself some cash... call it your pay from the cantina. Then, a /tip would actually be a TIP too. Not your sole ability to make money.

Well for starters, player city cantinas are much smaller than the cantinas in regular cities. But as far as i know BF cannot be healed in a house. So cantinas, theaters, and hotels are the only places to heal BF. If you want to heal BF place one, they wont be worth it for everybody.

I regularly heal BF in a house. You can't heal that at a camp, but you definitely can in a house. Any public house. My friends have asked me to come out to their vendors to give a private concert for their customers with lots of BF & mind wouns.

- Make a cantina benefit the musician too, perhaps something like...I think this is a great idea. I would fully support this and suggenst maybe putting it in the sticky at the top

Well I am now a cantina owner.. benefeits over a house?
- 1 less lot than a large house
- Is listed on the global map under "Cantina"
- Can be /registered in
- Can be located with /find if it is the closest cantina
- Has a distinct stage area as well as two teired area that can be all seating or upper seating lower dance floor (IE like a club)
Benefeits over a NPC cantina:
- Smaller, so the whole thing is being used
- Can heal regular wounds there
- You get to pick where it is
- Has a distinct stage area
Benefeits of a house over a cantina:
- Smaller footprint
Benefeits of a NPC cantina over a player cantina:
- Recognizable shape... The player cantina DOES have a unique shape but it's harder to pick out on a map. However at least it's identical on all planets instead of just similar.
Beyond that.. A cantina is a house with a few extras and some placement restrictions as far as the game is concerned. You can decorate it however you want, it's even got steps so you can do a LITTLE bit of height placement (But not enough.. Theres shelves behind the bar you can't place anything on) When the thing was first placed, it was called "Tiaga's House" and was private. The maintenance rate is the same as a large house.

Not to mention I wouldn't count on being able to heal BF in houses forever, it was always meant to be a temporary replacement until Player Cities went in.
And yeah, the new cantina's as far as layout goes beat any house or npc cantina hands down for a good place to perform, it really looks like a club. Advantage to a house would be the extra rooms to use for other stuff. I really can't imagine why someone would go with a house over a Cantina in a player city unless they didn't have that option.
