to optomize xp how often shall one flourish 5, 8, or 10 seconds?
are certain flourishes more effective than others?
and as for buffs do the same rules apply while playing the virtuoso song?

Most songs have 4 second stanzas, so your flourish will last four seconds. If you want to flourish all the time, use 4 second pauses. But, at the end of your macro (it should have15-20 flourishes) if you're lower in Action than you were when you began, you need to add in some breaks. Just keep it in multiples of 4, and try to not make them longer than 8 seconds if you can handle that.

Oh sorry, I only half-answered.
All flourishes are equal.
When buffing, the better song and instrument you use, the faster your buffs will achieve maximum boost. And yes, you do need to flourish when buffing. I have a macro for playing a good, long song with all kinds of pauses for when I'm not buffing, and a macro for playing flourishes non-stop for doing buffs.
Grab some Kiwek Klusjo Swirl from your local chef for boosting your action while you play.

thank you for your swift and insightful reply.. however the cahr i have in mind is a support character and is already a doc.. so buffs abound... thank you
