Thread: Entertainment Modules for Droids

Entertainer module: Entertainers would get a certification so that only they could use this droid (no combat functionality is added so its different that the combat certs). This module would allow an entertainer to queue one of 10 different new effects (smoke, lighting, etc.) The advantage is that the droid won’t consume entertainers HAM (just batteries). Each module will represent a different effect. So with 10 different effects, there will be 10 Entertainer modules which means the higher level droids with more module slots will be more useful for queuing different effects.

Don't know about anybody else, butI could care less.

New effects? Not bad. It's better than nothing anyway.

New songs are not coming so soon, so any new bits we can have will make me happy

While I can understand that you might be a bit underwhelmed by this, I would like to say that as a droid engineer the upcoming changes has been the first thing to actually get me excited in the last eight months about the profession. It all has to start somewhere, and I'd rather it start here than never start at all.

Myself, I am hoping that they eventually put a music accompaniment module in, allowing a musician to have the droid accompany him on another instrument, even when solo.

Regarding skill mods from droids: Thunderheart has already stated that droids will not do this.

And on that note, if you happen to be a non-afk musician/dancer/entertainer on Ahazi (preferably on Naboo) send me a message with where you usually perform. I much prefer to do my crafting/grinding in a social environment with good music and entertainment.

I have to agree with JohnMarble. I really don't give a rodent's derriere. This isn't what I want a droid for. I want to camp the starport spawn with the doctors. I want to be able to pull out my droid and 'plug into its speaker system' and heal fatigue & wounds and buffwherever the hell I want...just like doctors. Even if my healing takes a hit in effectiveness for it.

And don't give me any crap about our 'place' being in the cantinas. The concept behind the 'cantina' is a failure --it's torture to go into either of the ones where you know there are entertainers/patrons, and dead just about everywhere else. And I really don't think the changeover to a questable FSCS will change that very much.

these are GREAT ideas! to that guy that said it was underwhelming...it is. We work so hard to get master and the droids are going to take place of an "F" key? or a click? whoopee. i think its stupid how we HAVE to be in a lag-ridden cantina to heal ppl, while our buffs can be done in camps (when it doesnt mess up, so pretty much you HAVE to buff in cantinas because the camps mess up like 9/10 times). This quest system isnt going to help this business, because ijust KNOW that somehow people are going to have to master musician, and take away more of our business. (and by business, being a MM you just have to put the tag on in dath outpost and be swamped with tells for buffs).........yeah i guess this is a start to our being helped by the devs, but while new effects sound nice, i dont think that we need droids to have them do them for us b/c most people just have the effects in their macros you know? reply with your ideas

I like this idea
Ican just see an r2 droid serving drinks with a little serving tray stuck to its head.

we can drink and relaxwhile we wait at the starport.

Given that this is more use than most droids currently have, and that we work hard to get to master to have the ability to make mobile crafting stations that we still cannot figure out what their rating is (but is definately lower than an architect created crafting station), storage compartments on a droid that are one fifth the size of a backpack (even on the binary load lifter), and cl 10 (or less) combat droids which are nearly impossible to repair unless you already know someone else who has a repair droid, and that all droids up till the upcoming publishes consume one battery every fifteen minutes or so, I must say that I understand your position on their utility quite well. I also consider this to be a step in the right direction, and I am sorry you don't view it that way. This is not directly an addition to your profession, but rather the first real set of additions and fixes to the droid engineer profession since launch, which happens to affect your profession. If there is something else you would like to suggest, in a positive and constructive manner, please post them in the In Development threads regarding them.

The point of the droids is to bring added functionality to all players, at least in my opinion, so if you do have suggestions for droids that will add functionality to you as I said above, by all means please post them in a constructive manner on the thread on the In Development forum while there may still be time remaining for them to get them in for publish 8.

The art team probably had the assests, so it's easy to just add more special effects, while any other idea will require coding. So I doubt they'll do anything other than what they said. I view special effects as icing on the cake. They don't really help anything, they're just they're to enhance. But the cake needs a little more time in the oven, and they're just dumping more icing on it. Anyway, I took your advice and posted on that thread, and switched from my acid dealing weapon to my energy based weapon:

Well, we entertainers have finally figured out we don't need to play for 8-10 minutes in order to give a full two hour buff. Get some action buffs, then spam-flourish and the time required can be reduced to a few minutes, not ten (one person reported giving a 2 hour buff in one and a half minutes). So, instead of making a song "sound good" just play as fast as possible, no matter how disjointed the music ends up. That's not good.

So, throw out flourishing effecting the buff time, and make the buff time dependent on special effects. First, this will put a nice cap on the time it will take to listen for an entertainer buff (because youalready can't spam special effects), second it will give these effects an actual purpose in terms of game-mechanics, people willhave a reason to be buying the droids (many enterainers are not rich enough to waste credits on something that has no other purpose other than "looking cool"), and it will allow folks to actually make the songs sound like songs while people listen, not noise.

Thanks
