Thread: Player Theater... WASTE OF CREDS!

Ok, I travelled to see one last night. I had grand dreams of the Shayde Memorial Theater. (It can be MEMORIAL... I've died like 50 times)

Save your cash. Why?

1. They are SMALL. Tiny really. Better room in a player cantina.
2. They are stark. No decorations to speak of.
3. They have NO chairs.
4. The stage is just TINY.
5. You CANNOT drop a Nargalon or Omni Box and play it on the stage.
6. STILL no micstands. Come on people... Can an Agent get a Mic Stand???

After being impressed by the player cantina and the other player city improvements, I can see they cut the corner on this one. ESPECIALLY when you see ampitheaters like the one on Verindi Island, or the nice hall in Dejarik.

Just a tip, for the lovely Musicians...

You missed the best part imo, the so called stageis "outside" (like a roof on any normal house). So you cant cure/buff from it either.

I have to say I agree. The buildings are not particularly attractive to look at, and they don't work -- we can heal or buff only backstage. Pretty disappointing, really, given that the NPC theaters are some of the finest locations in the game.

I am sorely disappointed with the theater as well.

One advantage to the theater layout is the ability to control who can get onto the stage.
Another is the ability to launch fireworks from the stage.

But, that's about it.

Since the seating area counts as outside, it's possible for people to bring their pets up and block the view of the stage. Plus the inability to buff an audience from stage.

Mmmm...*there* would be an interesting perk. Let *eveyone* in the audience area get Mind/Focus/Willpower buffs from on-stage performers automatically, without the need to individually /setperform or group with people. If a performer wants to fine tune their buffing ('I refuse to buff Imperials') they can play at cantinas. People who don't care who they play for can perform at the theater.

As for the Nala/Ommni, I think the problem with playing them on stage is that the instruments are being rendered at *ground* level instead of *stage* level. Perhaps a consequence of the stage being an 'outside' area? Can see the effect by dropping a Nala on the low edge of the ramps leading up into the stands. Setting off fireworks from the stage reinforces this. You can't *see* the fireworks as normal...but they still go off.

Agree... Player city theaters are a complete joke.. I can't begin to tell you how excited, then dissappointed I was to finally place mine, only to redeed it and put down a cantina instead..

You can't heal, You can't furnish them, The audience area is very small.. smaller then a cantina..

When one goes to "place" their deed you get the overhead view box.. Great, but why didn't they specially CODE that box as "indoor" and NOT outdoor.. The size and "outdoor" status is what really destroys any use for this building.. Increase the size of the audience area by 50% (wider), and code this building as "indoor"..

Before we actually saw one put to use, I had dreams of furnishing my theater with rows of couches, a couple VIP tables.. placement of decorations and instruments on stage.. performing evening shows under the stars, with fireworks, special lighting effects by elite entertainers such as myself.. I guess I was dreaming thinking that SOE could of given me the enjoyment of hosting and playing in a true outdoor concert forum..

SOE.. just CODE this building as indoor, so it can be utilized the way it should be and all would be fine.. however, I hope you make it 50% bigger at the same time.. IF you are truely unable to code this building 'one of a kind" indoor use zone.. then for Pete sake, PUT a canopy over it and enclose the audience area and make it bigger.. oops almost forgot, if you do enclose it.. PUT down some carpet too..

I'm just baffled that SOE devs didn't have the foresight to see this building as nothing more then a complete unusable waste of resources and credits.. You talk about moneysinks, well a theater is exactly that..

I haven't really found a good reason to have a theater, except maybe as bragging rights for a city. We have a player city on Radiant, Rori, city of New Kasyyk. I have both a cantina and a theater there. I was hoping there would be some advantage to having a theater as opossed to a cantina. But, alas, I have found none. They're really not theaters anyway. A theater would be inside. It's more an ampitheater. But, here are my concerns

1. Functionally worthless. No healing or buffs possible in the normal public seating area.

2. Furniture. Can't place anything where you would expect the public to sit. Can't dress up the place and can't place stuff on stage.

3. No sign on the building. Most other structures have a name visible as you walk up and down the street. Theater does not. In fact, regardless of the name, the theater shows only the word "theater" when you look at the overhead map. All other public buildings show the name assigned to each of them.

Signing in...

Last night I placed the Talon Colleseum (spelled wrong I think) and I'll add to the list, althought most is allready written above...

I cannot register here, probably because it's designated as outside. And also we cannot heal BF/Mindwounds here, I haven't tried the buff yet but I'm afraid because it is outdoors it will also not work, will try this tonight.

On the upside, I have a great view of Talon playing on stageof our theatre. And it shows up on the map, Woohoo, there is only 1 theatre on Corellia... I wonder why the NPC theatres don't show on the planet map...

Has any Mayor tried placing a player-city streetlamp on stage? Streetlamps *do* work on roofs, which otherwise behave an awful lot like the Theater stage. So maybe at least you could dress up your theater stage with a row of colored streetlamps.

I'm a Mayor, but we don't have a theater, so I haven't tried. I did own a Theater briefly on Test Center, but the mayor asked me to re-deed it after we decided we didn't like it.

Hmmm, does it have to be a mayor or can I get zoning rights from a militia member and try it myself ?

I'll jump on a shuttle to naboo and buy a few and then try it out, my zoning rights are still good for atleast 8 hours... If it doesn't work then I'll grab our mayor by his hairs and drag him to our new theatre
