Thread: Do using Microphone's have any effect when turned on?

I was in Theed last night and seeing that the Cantina was over-populated as usual, I ran towards the outside stage area near the Theed Starport. There you will find an Omni-box, 2 free standing speakers, a microphone, and a one of those Max Rebo piano thingies (sorry...I'm not even going to try and spell it).

Anyway, there is also a microphone there. When you click on it, there is an option to turn it on/off. So I turned it on, and began playing my Slitherhorn right in front of the mic. Does anyone know if anything actually happens, or if there was an intent for anything to happen?

Lastly, Why is everyone crowded at the Cantina...Why no outdoor band at thsi location? Is it an XP issue, 'cause I was still getting muscianship XP as a solo, though no one was listening to me

I tried all kinds of things with the PA system, and they do nothing (but you do have to turn on the speakers, too).

Everybody goes to the cantina because everybody goes to the cantina.

You can get Musicianship XP anywhere you play, but you can't heal battle fatigue or mind wounds outside a cantina, camp, hotel, theater, player house, or player guildhall. That's why people won't generally listen to you outdoors unless they happen to be there for another reason (e.g., starports) or unless the outdoor location qualifies as a theater. The outdoor ampitheater on Vreni Island on Corellia does qualify as a theater.

It sounds like JohnMarble knows more about microphones than I do. I have a set of speakers in our player cantina; they don't seem to do anything.

That's weird. I tried using the band setup on Coronet, and the guy was irritated when he didn't get a buff and I told him I was experimenting. Maybe they started to make those things work and didn't get to them all? I noticed the setup by the bank Bestin can't even be targeted.

The only thing I can think of is background music. I was in Bestine and the background music was loud and clashing with my song. I'm wondering if turning on the microphone is a signal that live players are in the cantina and disables the background music...

ok i tried it again tonight and it didnt work- in the same place. so i am unsure whether i gave a buff last time or not (it was awhile ago when all we had was passive buffs.) the people that were there insist that they did get a buff (we were going krayt hunting) so i dont know what i did lol.
