A couple of nights ago, while jamming in the Coronet Cantina (one I do not frequent often as it is 'bot central' on Wanderhome), a holotainer whom I just taught knowledge 1 to asked me:
Him: "Why are you in the cantina?"
Me: "What do you mean?"
H: "well your a master musician, so why are you still here? aren't you going to go on to another profession now?"
M: "er..."
Its getting to the point where people dont even consider entertainer a class anymore. Just a means to an end. This revelation scared me. While I know holo's and jedi's are coming to a close with the new patch...with the bots and all, and people's current understanding of entertainers...sorry. Just thinking now =)

Oh man, that just is so depressing.
That said, back in the day, when everyone was at the keyboard, Masters became scarce at public cantinas pretty quickly. I know I started doing private gigs instead. Still, some did come to jam in the public cantina with surprising frequency even after making Master.

The other day while working in the ID tent (my profession) some guy asked me "So, what number profession is this for you?"

Yep, it's not just an enterainer problem though. It's unfortunate that the devs instituted a system where it seems that the only way people know how to play is by going from profession to profession. It's rare to come across anyone who actually plays one template for any period of time. But, the ones that do, those are the true masters who really know what they're doing and can get true enjoyment out of the professions, as well as teach others what it really means to be what you are.

That is really pathetic....Even when I was trying out new professions just for the heck of it I kept Master Musician and Master Entertainer. I didn't use i t heavily when I was working on chef for awhile, but it was still fun to suddenly jam for awhile. It seems like such a degredation though....

each and every one of you are looking at this all wrong. WHO CARES what other people think about our profession? it's how WE look at it is what makes it justifyable to be a entertainer. i LOVE being different from the masses because that is where i find justification in being content in my profession. someone can come up to me and ask "how many professions have u done so far now that u have mastered musician?" i will ask them back with "how many people and their mothers have done your main profession just to be considerd "1337"?
thats all i have to say about this....

And people got upset at the masters (Or even non masters) that left the group to play something higher. These days it's not a problem though. I just ask in group "Anyone mind if we play jazz?" And when nobody responds negatively, I switch the group.
As to worrying about what other people think... Isn't that kind of what entertaining is all about? After all, what is an entertainer without an audience?
As they say.. The show must go on.

Several days ago, Roho held a little contest for our guild members. He offered 50,000 credits to the first person who could correctly name the tune he was playing. About a dozen players came in and not a single one of themknew the tune! While I was rather happy that the prize went back into the family pocket
it was disheartening to see how many players "slept" though most of their entertainer grind . . .

It is sad, many players simply move from one profession to the next as a means of "playing" the game. They don't take time out to smell the roses or watch the sunrise or simply enjoy what thay have for a moment.
I cant fathom this approach. Their loss.

Geez . . . good thing I wasn't there. I would not have had a clue. (Lei can't carry a tune in a travel pack.

Now I kow it was not a freak occurence. It happenned again last night. I was again, in Coronet, there are a few holotainers and one musician trying to stay the course for the profession so I been coming back to freely train them, we have all gotten along fantastically.
A twilek runs around spamming in spatial "LOOKING FOR ENTERTAINER GROUP INVITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" (no hyperbole there) about 10 times in a 3 minute period. I finally respond to her "the group is full atm but there seems to be a 10 minute turnover rate so you''ll get next invite". She stops, takes note of my master musician tag, and goes into a tirade that I am rude to take up room in a group while others have to grind. I respond simply that she is rude for walking in and acting like she owns the place. Do I have to be inconvenianced so you will not be for another 8 minutes? She responds over and over again that I am just selfish and I should not be in a cantina group because I'm a master. At this point I ask (i should not have) the group if they want me to drop so another can join and get the xp i admittedly do not need. The response was a resounding NO. Most of the group was musicians, my being there was upping there xp to admit a dancer, would defeat that, and that a side bonus I had the only effects droid (to up the show), and lastly, My mando is different asnone of the others present have ME, so its a welcome sound. I stay very unhappily silent while i get bombarded some more in spatial.
At this point the troupe decides to reform, as there are 5 AFKers in the group, and she gets the invite to the newly formed group. At this point I am considerably P'ed off that I got so berated in spatial chats, after having the gall to let her know it will be a short wait after her annoying spamming in caps....So I launched into my own tirade (only in grp as it should not be dealth with in spatial and hurt peeps good time in a cantina =) ) about it being a social profession, that by god I have EARNED the right to play in popular cantina's, especially in a group that is so live and non-afk, a rarity in Coronet on Wanderhome server.
Understandably everyone else in the group was trying to soften the situation, make jokes, which I appreciated, but was too far gone. They were trying to get us to be quiet, my bad i know for not just promptly /ignore'ing. So whomever was there last night-Im sorry for losing it like I did lol.
Then this Twilek 2 minutes later says in group "Ok I am dancing, going afk." lol. My jaw hit the floor. Utterly flabbergasted. I bid everyone a good night, told the twilek they are now on ignore, put her on ignore, and disbanded.
Apperantly at that point a lot in the group (and especially the holotainers I have gotten to know) laid into this girl real hard. For A)it was expressly a non afk grp, we even reformed to admit her and 2 others that were waiting, and B) for making a fuss that an atk person was in the grp preventing her from joining and go afk. 5 minutes later i was telled by 6 or 7 peeps that she wants to apologize to me, and that for me to come back, that she has logged off...
Ok now I feel a bit bad, I did not intend to be a harbinger on someone else's enjoyment or hologrinding or whatever. I feel I was out of line, sure, I should have never gotten that upset. But I was basically told I do not belong with other enertainers because I was nowa Master, apperantly I am supposed to goto central Yavin and play Ballad by my lonely self.....and as per my starting post on this thread, the second time now in as many days.

Besides being known to be a ME/MM for the last 7-8 months on Wanderhome, never changing professions (albiet working my way to DE for a third), I am also known for my happy-go-lucky attitude while playing, sure people get promptly put on /ignore. Especially buffbots, but I never get mad, accept last night and 9 months ago standing up for a dancer that was sexually harrassed by some jerk....(good track record for 11 months of play). My point is in reading this last post, I never do this in game, but things really REALLY are getting out of hand for the Entertainers.
Now people are not only so embedded in changing professions, but those whom do not get less respect, like we're freaks or something lol, oh and selfish for taking up hologrinding afk macro room in a grp....

Ok, first, don't apologize for getting angry. We all do from time to time. And, yeah, I'm biased, but we entertainers have a right to get angry about the way things are these days. Nobody has a right to be in any group whatsoever. The group leader decides who has the right and who does not. We may think they are jerks, but they are free to run the group however they see fit. And, you are also right in that you have every right to play in the Cantinas. You've earned that, moreso than any holotainer out there. Just because they're trying to be Jedi or grind afk by not actually ever playing a character does not make them special. I try very hard not to look down on people for their own choices. But, when they get to the point where they think they have more right to be there than someone who actually cares about the profession? I'm sorry, but all hell breaks loose when somebody tries that with me.
I have also, noticed, too, the general disdain that many others have for those of us who actually want to stick with a profession. And, it goes beyond that, too. I was grinding some ID about a week ago, and those of us in the tent were having a discussion about how torturous the ID grind was now, and one of the people in the tent asked me incredulously, "What? You don't have an alt to practice on?" It's almost as if not only does everyone grind professions one after another, but it's unheard of to not be spending extra money on extra accounts to make your Jedi grind easier.
I confess, I don't understand most people who play these games, I really don't. I mean, I'm the type of guy who usually...well, for lack of a better word, wants to "play" a game. I want to immerse myself in a world and a character. I want to "be" that character. You can't do that by grinding, or going afk or having alts. It just doesn't make sense in my view of what an MMORPG is supposed to be. I like the wide variety of choices this game offers, and I want to be but one character who *has* to be dependent on others and others dependent on me in order to "survive." So many people don't seem to care about that at all. It's just about being the best, the fastest, by any means necessary. Like I said, I truly don't understand that mentality. Maybe I'm weird. But, you know, I think that people like myself truly appreciate and enjoy a game like this better than those who don't share that mentality. We appreciate the work the immersiveness that the devs provided for us. We're the ones that are most likely to give the devs accolades for providing this experience for us. And, that's what it is, an experience. Yet, for some reason, the devs seem to be more concerned with catering to the people who don't truly appreciate what we have here. The ones that aren't really "playing," the ones that are going to get bored the fastest because they've achieved uberdom the fastest and have nothing else to do. My god, I've had so much to do just playing, I completed the Jabba themepark for the first time today.
I just don't get it. In almost every game I've played I can look at one thing that has always ruined it for me, one thing that has always been what eventually causes me to quit--the mindset of the players that I just described above. Doesn't anyone actually want to play in a virtual world these days? It seems most don't.
