Thread: Crafted instrument signatures

Since getting my master title, I've started to get many requests for instruments as my fellow musicians reach the next level of music knowledge. If my instruments are going to start proliferating the server little by little, I'm thinking of adding a signature to the instrument names.
What kinds of signatures do ya'll use, if any, when crafting instruments?
(I don't plan on stealing any ideas, I just thought this could be a fun topic).

Since I don't mass-craft instruments for selling but only do them on request (and then give them away), I'll usually put the recipient's name in the title to make it more personal. E.g. "Aleyo's Mandoviol"

Mine are all numbered in the title and named by my "company". So an example...

an UberFizzz - by Uber Instruments #F00136

Unless people have asked for a different name, that's what I make. Because they are numbered individually in name, they cannot be mass produced. I also have done limited edition instruments with slightly different names and a (#x of xx) in the name.

I usually use something like "A Mandoviol by Warryyr Instruments"

Though, sometimes I'll put in "A Vintage Nalargon by Warryyr Instruments" or "An Exquisite Ommni Box by Warryyr Instruments" just to give 'em some more pizazz.

I like Fragpuppie's idea of serial numbers, though - that's awesome! Lets people know they weren't just factory crated and stuff.

Ah, this is what I've been doing so far. Perhaps both ideas could be implemented.. the non-creative version being "Landlubber's Nalargon by Scipionus". The one thing I've been worried about is that if I personalize the instrument to the user, they can't ever give it away to another youngerling. Meh, maybe that's ok though.

Which is entirely intended on my part

And I did a special line of Limited instruments too, or at least got startedon one. I use them as a give-awayfor supporters and special clients of the band I play in on Chimaera, Nebula. Each one is individually named and numbered, there will only ever be 10 of each instrument, and they will only be given away, never sold.

But we only got started on that - so far only 3 out of 10 instruments with serial number 01/10 are gone - we're somewhat picky on who gets them

Im somewhat against mass producing instruments. Pride I guess, I think the best instruments are the hand done ones ya? so...Mostly I just go with Nikiro's <instrument> but sometimes Ill throw in a model number, been starting to more and more

I currently do two different ones... my "Starter" line of instruments (Starter Fizzz) and my Master Line of limited edition Numbered Instruments (Oh-Orbs Mandoviol #1 of 50) and what not. I put the stuff up on my vendor with descriptions like this...

From the Starter line of Oh-Orbs Muse Inc.

What's hard to spell, harder to say and can make old people move like you just shouted "Free BINGO" ??? Why it's the lovely combo of the Chidinkile..Chidan... what ever it is and the Waltz. Yes you too can now become adept at mending broken hips.

Well I also have odd one of a kind instruments that I make from time to time and give them really funny descriptions but I don't expect those to sell most of the time.(aka Pandoras Box for 50k)

When I made instruments, I used to put my old clothes label, "by TK". Just something simple. I've since changed my clothes label, and would likely use a new label for instruments as well, though not the same.

One thing I do - though this doesn't so much apply to instruments as it does to clothes. For items I make to sell, with a few rare exceptions, I always leave the item name fully in-tact in it's original form, including having "a" or "an" in the beginning. Any modificiations are made at the end, or possibly in the middle. It may limit creativity a bit, but it's much easier to find "a Nalargon" on the bazaar than it is to find the "Gnarly Nalargon" amidst the "Jazzy Traz", "Jizzin Fizzz", "Slimy Slitherhorn", "Rockin' Box", "Fender™ Straticaster™ electric mandoviol", "Killer Kloo", and such. If I make items not for sale, or for special orders, I excercise a bit more creativity. My cantina has, for example, a "Deluxe Ommni Box". It's deluxe because I put it on a sofa chair such that when you play, you look like you're sitting in the chair, not on the stool. So instead of this hard stool, you kick back in this nice cushy seat while playing. Though, I think I'm going to get a new one named "Waldo" instead. (I'm sure most people here can figure out why, And I'm serious too, going to get that made soon as I get home.)

Inside my heart is breaking, my make-up may be flaking
But my smile still stays on
My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies

I used to sign my crafted instruments... particularly nalargons which I sold in Anchorhead for 4K .... but I have not signed any in more than 6 months......... I do keep a vendor fully stocked with 3 to 6 sets of all the instruments ranging in cost from 600c to 5000c

I sell instruments on the bazaar in Theed, Coronet, and currently Mos Eisley on Tatooine, and up untila few months ago, I used to hand-craft every instrument one by one. However, with so many people buying my instruments, I couldn't keep up with demand. So, I ended up crafting instruments all the time, and constantly shuttling to all three planets to immediately put more instruments up for sale, which was very tiring lol . So, now I make them with my factory, but I still try to make the instrument schematic with the highest quality I can .

Anyways, I usually name my instruments like this, including the type of materials used to make it, and "by Seri Shadowstar" at the end. So, you would see something like:

a Mandoviol (Conifer & Copper) by Seri Shadowstar

a Nalargon (Steel & Aluminum) by Seri Shadowstar

Using a signature to name your instrument will make some people recognize you even though you've never met them heehee. I've met people who have seen my Nalargons in cantinas I've never even visited, or had people tell me they mastered the profession using my instruments. It's nice to know you've helped them, even in a small way.

I only really sell instruments on our vendor, or just make them for friends, but I usually just put a 'by Crescendo' after the instrument label's. I ask the person, having the instrument made, if they want something special as the name, and will put that if they wish. If I'm making the instrument as a special gift or anything, I've also put the person's name on it.
