Alright, this is a bit of an unusal question, and the fact is..I have no idea were to put it! So, my friends, it's going into two places, here and Musician....and you're about to see why:
So, I was fumbling along the other day, finally getting enough grit to become a master Musician. I'd been working on this for sometime so I could make it into a clan that a friend of mine was in. In all good honoesty, I really like the job, but I do admit that it's a bit lacking in the money making department. I like to entertain, it's neat watching flourishes, listening to music happen, but I'm also a man of action. My original plan was, infact, Musician/Pistoleer. Well, today I became a guild member and I was pretty happy. I've met some of the people and such, and they all seem generally fun to be with. But earlier I had gotten to thinking, "What am I going to do for cash? Valcyn isn't too big on population, or so it says, and I've only had one paying entertainer gig before (which hauled me a lot of cash, I must say. They were generous and I thank them)." I think I'm like most people. I want a house on a planet, namely tatooine. There's almost no reason for it if I was an entertainer, but hey, it'd be nice to go back to a swanky pad and hang out with a few people. But, there goes the moths flying out of my pocket; I was dumb founded at how much some houses cost. The idea was that I was going to split a house with my good budy, but medium and large cost quitea bit of pocket change. Anyway, back to today's adventure: I found there was a Master Smuggler in my guild! I've always been Very interested in the smuggling profession besides, and so I figured I'd ask him a few questions. Upon getting to know about it, it got me thinking: I could make some credits with this profession if I really put my mind to it. Problem is, I like musician too! So, I decided to download a calculator (one that I suggest to all of you. It's really handy. www.oasisparadise.com) and figure out what I could do. Needless to say, if I wanted to keep my musician (Master it, heck, even not master it) I would never be able to get the full benefits of smuggler, the money making, or a helping fighting class (Pistoleer or Teras Kasi). Really, I'm simply looking for input and ideas on what I should pick. I know most of you will say "Well, do what you like to do." But as I expressed, I really like to do both, but wouldn't be able to effectively. So I urge and beg you to please put your thoughts down. Think of it as a good debate on why being this or that would be a good idea. Thank you so very much for your time.

I don't know much about Smugglers, but they're always lobbying very hard for improvements to their profession, which might be a bit of a danger sign. On the other hand, we entertainers are always lobbying very hard for improvements to our profession too.
Personally, I'd opt for Musician plus a pure combat profession, like Rifleman. You can make lots of money doing destroy missions, and even with Musician you can easily master a combat profession.

I've been in a similar dilemma, except I went TK instead of pistols. At one point I was master dancer, master tkm, and I dabbled in smuggler. In the end I opted to keep dancer and TK, and devote the rest of my skillpoints to master entertainer, and go up knowledge in musician, which I find very enjoyable. It's good to have a variety of entertainer skills when you're part of an entertainer troupe as I am.
I ultimately decided to go tkm instead of smuggler because I, like you, wanted to have mastered at least one combat profession so that I could hold my own in hunts and PvP, and I didn't think smuggler could really do that for me. Plus, I just really love TK. But, the inner smuggler still yearns to be let loose sometimes, and I can see myself doing it sometime in the future. It's a hard decision though and I can't give you any definitive answers. Right now, I guess decide what's more important. If you really need an elite combat profession then stick with the pistols. You could do what I did, which was go up one line of smuggling. If you're object is to make money, then maybe the slicing line? Though you won't be as good as a master. I went up spices but one of the reasons I dropped that was because spices just aren't selling enough to make it worth my while, especially because I had to buy all the resources and power. My profit was just too low for the effort. And, I'm honestly unsure how good the market would be for a Slicer as opposed to a Master Smuggler.
If, on the other hand, you don't expect to be fighting as much and you want to do something that just seems cool, then you can go for the smuggler. Like I said, not an easy decision. And, even though I have personally made my decision for the moment, that doesn't mean I won't change my mind later. I have even considered smuggling on one of my other characters besides Drygo. I don't play the others as often, so it might be nice just to have a master smuggler on a server where I won't really be worrying to much about being effective in hunts or PvP.
I'm sure I didn't help you at all, but just letting you know I totally understand what you're going through.

Oh nonono! Trust m, every little bit helps. My choice will be based on facts that people give me. I figure that if enough people post, I can better make my choice, and do so wisely. Don't worry about swaying me..hearing how fun you think it is and why helps me out a great deal! Thanks a lot!

Hi Correv
Welcome to our neck of the universe. If I understand your question correctly, you are torn, via skill points, over what to become, but you like both Musician and Smuggler.
Well I can tell you that Smuggler will have a huge overhaul sometime after the expansion, and that development Docs are already being laid out, via GreenMarine the Dev
Anyhow, I would suggest to you, Master Musician, Master Smuggler and take Pistoleer up the Stances and Grips line all the wayup. That would give you 2 of the better combat abilities in Fanshot and Stopping shot, and you will not feel like a gimp in a group. Solo....well,you can still run decent paying missions with the build, however, you will want to have good buffs and food.
This is justadvice IMHO that would help you enjoy what you want to do, as you have an interest in both, and allow you to be beneficial to a group. This build excludes both medic and scout which I usually always take on most any build but there are an awful lot of folks running without either of those, so its not impossible.
Before I got Multiple acounts ( Dang the single character rule!) I went to another galaxy to try out different things, so that is an option to you as well. I just hate that you have to leave one community for a while to go to another server and have to gain new friends, etc. But hey, variety is the spice of life, no?
Ultimately "Well, do what you like to do."

I remember the days before buffbots, where I could easily make 10-15,000 credits for every(!) buff. I was a master dancer and musician, and people would always come to me for their mind buffs. It wasn't long before that 15,000 became 150,000, and it wasn't long after that when it became 1,500,000(in my wallet of course). That was the way I made money(I didn't really buy anything, but I'm starting to run out after armor purchases, brandy, weapons, and clothes). Now that people know of buffbots, demand for entertainer mind buffs is down. WAY down. The only way the entertainer can make money again is through the buff, and I'm afraid that as long as buffbots are in existance, the entertainer buff will never be in highdemand as it was.

An easy way of making some credit could be renting out your lots to a crafter in you guild. I am sure that an weaponsmith or armour smith could use an extra storage building or factory. If you choose to live in a large house you would still have 4 lots free you could rent out.

Personally, I'd take both Master Musician and Master Smuggler. With taking those two you can still go up at least onebranch in either TKA or Pistoleer. I would suggest taking something for a little defense or a little damage. Personally, I'd take Power Techniques or Precision Striking from the TKA line. Just so I could do a little damage. However, Pistoleer might be a better choice. I just want to try TKA out a little.
