Thread: /startband?

Was just pondering the use of /startband....for some certain players who readily join your group....

Does it prevent flourishes? What are the ramifications/effects of /startband?

/stop will stop em playing...but they'll just start up again eventually. I was wondering what /startband might do.

Thanks for the help!

bah, I guess it would just bug me, not the group member(s).

Nuts.

One thing it does is cause any dancer holding a musical instrument to start playing music for dance xp. Another thing it does is cause certain memberd of the group to flourish for no xp.

/startband is pretty much a band macro. Not to sound overly obvious. In an entertainer group where people are there or xp in addition to entertaining the local wildlife it is mostly a bane.

-For instance if I am giving a dance buff and someone /startband or /changeband and I am still holding my chid horn it can screw it all up.

-When I was grinding dancing a plethera of times I would have to reset myself to dancing because someone used /startband whenever i forgot to unequip an instrument.

-On my server there is a gentleman who found my ignore list but more so my short Do Not Group With Bloody Ever list because for some reason he loved stopping the band. Then /startmusic so no one else would start. While this is useful if your trying to regulate afk'ers, or discourage afk'ing, he was doing ti about once every 30 seconds. Then it just became griefing everyone else, even those of us he KNEW was not afk. The next day I saw him playing and spamming the same macro's. and afk'ed....go figure (Sorry will get back on topic)

-I have noticed (or believed I have) when you /changeband this messes people up big time...As can throw people into a bug where they play but not our playing. Where the flourishes tell you they can't while not playing music but you show you are. This is known and been discussed ont hese forums before.

I do not recommennd this tactic. But if you are in a afk-heavy group in cnet for example, and most of them are dancing and your music xp is kinda low? /startband or /changeband will pick up those dancers holdign an intrument. This is probably classified as griefing and if not it still pisses off profession mates you'll have to make due with down the line somewhere. =)

I'm just looking into having a little fun here and there. Nothing too malicious.

Startband used to be one of the causes of the bug that would cause you to play, without playing and be unable to stop. There was a "fix" we all worked out however, but sometimes even it didn't correct the situation.

I rarely use this command at all. ButI do use it from time to time when I am just grouped with my droid. Likewise the stop command, if only grouped with my droid and i want use to stop at the same time.

I can see the uses for bands, but other than that, /shrug

Oh, I was under the impression that since that "fix" a couple of months ago, /startband only bugged the person issuing the command but otherwise just started everyone with an instrument equipped and not currently skill animating, and that only /changeband bugged those standing or dancing for no or music XP. Guess I was wrong...

From what I remember said "fix" adressed an issue where under certain circumstances all musicians got the same amount of XP as the person who issued the command - so everybody asked masters to do so...

I'm giving this a shot with some friends tonight.

And I still have to do my testing on battery life in entertainer droids...which WILL be done tonight

Here's what I know of these bugs...

  • /startband while grouped will bug the person who did it ( for some reason its ok solo) but the bug is minimal. Move or /stopm to stop....wait the 15 seconds and do a /startm.

  • if someone does a /startband, the sitting thing still works

  • I believe that the fix made the bug less severe (easier to correct)

  • /change is still bugged to high heaven bugging anyone not already playing who have instruments equiped.

  • the way to get out of the /change bug is still the same....only a /stopmusic works

When changing songs in a group, I use both methods, but I will often do a /startband, heal people to be sure they do not stop, and THEN do a /change.

I have used this command in a gig, when we want to start a performance with a bang. I also use it a bit with my droid. Otherwise, I avoid it. I too thought the last bug had been ironed out of it a few patches ago, but I guess not.

The "fix"I was refering to were a few things that you could do if you got bugged. Not a Development fix. We players found ways to get around most of the serious bugs. I have not tried sitting down with an instrument in hand and let someone do a start or change band command, so if it is indeed "fixed", I am unaware of it. Its been quite a while since I was able to see Xp gains, since, obviously, I am capped.

This is one of those things that a few of us couldget together on one of the Test Servers with the Blue frogs and test it out before they get shut them down.

Could be an awesome time to test, period. if anyone is interested in putting together a list of things to test, and wants to try them out, just let me know.I will volunteer to help. The best time for me is between 8:00 and 11:00pm central time, and on the weekends, just about anytime.
