(posted this in SWG general but surprise got alot of smart alec responses figured i would get actuall feedback here)

Im a Master Musician and working on Chef. Now would someone explain to me why in the world i would want to participate in the GCW?

I would love to get into the war and pick a side and be able to make a difference somehow, but i also wish to remain a Musician and Chef. I dont want to get battle skills. Not that I could after all the points that it takes to get Master Musician/Master Artisan/Novice Chef so far. Ill proabably have to dump most of my artisan skills to get chef to master.

As I understand it if i join a faction just in the Covert sense and then I play music in a cantina and heal a opposing side (which will happen constantly) I will most likely go TEF and get my head shot off!

So again, why should Non-combat players join in the GCW?

I'm a Master Musician/Master Entertainer, and I'm quite active in the GCW. I think it's great to participate even if you don't plan to fire a shot. First, I don't think you can get a TEF by healing your comrades in the cantina. I never have, and I play for my fellow rebels in Anchorhead all the time. Second, faction adds to the role-playing that is part of my standard cantina act anyway. It adds new significance to a tune like Star Wars 3. With the new /denyService command, you'll be able to refuse to heal the enemy too, I suppose. Third, it's fun to see all the secret covert purple dots. On top of all that, you can earn FPs and get promotions, buy faction goodies (including furniture), have bragging rights, participate in this month's story quest, etc.

Yes, it's a lot easier to get FPs if you have some combat skill. When I first joined the rebellion, I had only a couple of skill boxes in carbine, but now I'm close to Novice Carbineer and can do level 10 faction-destroy missions.

I've been surprised, though, that even a wimpy Musician like me can get some incaps and kills in PvP. It's often so chaotic that you can get some good licks in before the enemy notices you and crushes you like a bug. At the very least, you can fire at an AT-ST and say you helped fight it. Also, choose your targets well. My first kill was an enemy Master Musician: kinda funny to see two pianists dueling on the streets of Bestine. I also enjoyed the time when I tried to blow the brains out of a fellow entertainer (this means you, Candie) and then performed with her at a wedding reception two hours later.

Do the GCW. It adds a whole bunch of flavor to the game.

- Probably the best reason is to show your allegiance to one side or the other. Once you are factioned, you can see allyour other faction members (they have purple names).

- You can then choose to only aid your side, and not the enemy.

- Mind Wound and Battle Fatigue healing will not incur a TEF, so you're fine there

Ah finaly some good responses! So the BF Mind healing wont send me TEF. good to know! So i guess i can at least go covert and not get my head blown off.

I dont plan on ever PVPing in this game, which disapoints me that there isnt any other way to affect the GCW really other then that. But at least i can RP a bit with a covert faction.

Thanks for the responses!
