Thread: Wish list for the musician profession
Now... this is really stupid, don't going to sit and rewrite all I've written, so I'll throw a link to the document instead... why can't I just copy it in? ![]()

I read your document and agreed with most of your points. Several of your ideas are in our top-five list of issues and suggestions for the Musician profession. Incidentally, Holo just posted that more songs, instruments, and flourishes are coming -- though he didn't say when.
One of your ideas, composition, didn't make it into our first list. The Musician community seems to have varied reactions to that sort of idea. Some musicians are all for player-created content. Some like your idea but would prefer a more sophisticated means of generating that content, such as a program like Acid or Frooty Loops or even Sonar. Some people don't relish the prospect of a lot of not-so-great player music in the game. Some people (including me) aren't sure about the legal consequences of allowing player-made songs. I've actually begun researching that last question on my own; I'm a law teacher, and while my field isn't intellectual property, I have colleagues who are experts in the field. I'll let you know what I learn.
I think that a player created music system would be great, as I'm a big fan of Acid and Modplug, and creating my own music would be great fun, and possibly increase my tips. However, I do already see the problems with a player created music system.
1. Too many people would create duplicates of popular songs, neverminding the legal ramifications of this, it would drive me crazy, I hear this songs enough on the radio, hence why I no longer listen to the radio, I would not want to listen to them in SWG.
2. Creating good sounding original music is difficult, and requires talent, this might affect the enjoyment of the musician class for some people.
3. Some people would just make garbage music, probably lots of it (some even might think what they created is good, i.e. "tone deaf" people). This would be awful, and it would ruin the game for alot of people as well.
