For some reason, whenever I start playing the omni box, with or without a macro, after about 20 seconds i'll get the message you are preparing to stop playing. It's very annoying becuase then I have to start it back up again. I see other people playing them all the time in the cantina though with no problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What SquaLdon said: you're probably targeting something else with your mouse. You must keep the ommni (and nalargon) targeted at all times to play them. If you want to emote at someone, or invite them to your group, you must use the command line. (E.g., /invite NewJedi, or /smile NewJedi.)
The devs are aware we all hate this. Apparently the problem stems from the different way in which the ommni and nalargon are equipped. We "place" them in the world, much as we place houses or harvesters, and yet must also "equip" them. For similar reasons, you can't place an ommni or nala on a roof. (Or, last I checked, on stage at a theater?)

You can't deselect the ommni box, otherwise it stops.
Same with the nalargon
