Thread: Macro system chat lag

Seems like any time a macro runs a command it introduces lag into the typing system. This causes whatever letter was typed when the system starts to lag to be put at the end of the keyboard queue instead of the begining, causing anything typed while a macro is running to come out rather garbled, for example I will type "this is an example sentance" with a macro running, I got:

ths ii ans examlep sentance

there was lag at the "i" in this, the "s" in is, and the "p" in example causing them to be put in the sentance out of place. Needless to say this makes comunications while using entertainer macros to control flourishes and other aspects of entertaining.

This is new to pub 11.2, posting in all ent forums and core systems since it affects live entertainers the most

I, and several others I have spoken with, have had mad chat lag lately without a macro running. This lagis occurring only in chat. Some conversations have presented some really interesting garble.

I've never understood why typed text could get garbled due to lag, even before these apparent increases in the problems. There's no need to send every keystroke over the network when we're in chat mode. The client should detect when we get a blinking cursor, and switch to 'accept some text' mode which the client receives and then sends all at once. I know mapped keys need to be handled, but there should be at least some cases (once we've started typing in the chat box at least) where the server doesn't need to catch every keystroke.
Ah well.
