Music xp is based on two things: Instrumentused and the number of people watching your performance. The reason you seem to get more xp in a group is when a player "listens" to any group member, it counts as listening to you as well.

Unless you'd rather solo, I'd recommend making friends in the music community and grinding out music together. Makes it easier if you grind in a group because you can always chat withcustomers or your groupmatesto pass the time.

Good luck.

xp will increase as you gain skills...just takes some dedication is all.

Make sure you're flourishing (/flourish 1, /flourish 2, and so on through 8).

Also, xp is measured in "ticks" which is a measure of time - about 8 seconds or so. You want to get 2 flourishes in per "tick" - so flourish every 4 seconds. If you do less, you get less xp. If you flourish more often than every 4 seconds, you're burning Action and not getting benefit from it.

don't put anything about asking for tips in a macro you might run! pretty much just annoys people, doesn't really increase tips.

This cannot be stressed enough. Far too many people see others SPAMMING "Tip me, heal me, invite me, watch/listen to me" and think that this is something that they are supposed to do when all it accomplishes is to get you added to people's ignore lists. You get far better results (believe it or not) byENTERTAINING people than by spamming. You can even steal some customers from the bots... I know, I've done it.

I know that I personally /addignore anyone who macros the exact same thing more than once every 5 minutes or so. I also automatically /addignore any of the following on first hearing:

  1. Invite me if I'm not already grouped(*especially if theyARE alreadyin a group*)

  2. Tip me

  3. Heal me (*if they don't actually need to be healed*)

  4. Tumbling for your xp

  5. Any obvious BOT instructions

I just wish it were possible to ignore those stupid SPAM Droids.

minor clarifications....

Base XP is based on the instrument you are playing OR the song. Basically the higher the requirement the higher the XP. If there is an instrument and a song in your highest level box, either will give the same XP. There are a couple boxes where you get a song with no instrument or instrument with no song. Because the entire band needs to be playing the same song, instrument is easier to maintain for higher XP, but on those rare occasions of a new song being higher (Entertainer Music 2, Musical Knowledge 1) if you can play the higher song it is higher XP.

People watching does affect the XP earned, but there is also a benefit for being grouped separate from number of people watching. You can double the base XP if you are in a full group with all members entertaining. **NOTE** they need to be playing or dancing, members alone do not add but they can be doing either music or dance. Listeners add to that total and there are also minor bonuses for people /clap ing and /cheer ing.

So to recap.....

Base XP is maxed with 2 flos per "tick" (10 seconds) and /bandflos do not count unless you do them.
Play your highest instrument or song.
Perform in the largest group of performers possible.
Perform so people will watch or listen to your group.

Good Luck and do enjoy it.

If that day comes, it will be because there is no longer anyone worth playing with in the game and I will know that it is time to leave myself.

It is amazing how quiet a cantina can get once you go ignore all those. It makes chatting with the other life ents and customers so much easier because you can actually see what they are saying. I wish they would force the AFK tag so others coming in could filter all that out without turning off the option to see AFK talk.

If it does get to where my ignore list is so large I can hardly enteract with anyone it will be very obvious that it is time to go. Unlike so many lately I am here because it is an MMO not because it is a huge persistent single player game.

Chatting to the people who go into the Cantina and your fellow Entertainers will make things seem to go faster.

When you get to Musician go up the Knowledge branch first as this will allow you to increase your Music XP much more quickly.

If you are looking for a quick flow of Ent Healing XP try Theed (often adecent chance of finding live players) or Coronet (often a hell hole of AFK bots).

This should help, although it's a little out of date and in need of some ammending.
