id REALLY love to be a musician..infact id give up professions to be one..if only they let them compose their own music. It'd actually be a grind iwould enjoy doing.
so what are the chances of that happening? i know people say there could be legal issues..but really, if someone did take sheet music and jotted it down..who would actually NOT buy the actual music cd, because they can listen to a crappy midi version on star wars, with no lyrics bass, and drums mind you. and also it could expose people to new music, they like something they are being buffed/healed with, they'll ask what artist is that, and they'd go buy the album, maybe.
also i do compose my own music irl, and itd be fun to let others hear my work.
So what are the chances of it happening?

With the insanity of the RIAA suing everyone and their dog for sharing music, even 80 year olds who have never used computers and including people who have already DIED, I wouldn't touch this with a ten foot pole if I were Sony.
There have been studies that actually prove that P2P music sharing actually increases sales of CDs for exactly the reason you mention...someone who likes a song is likely to buy the entire album. But the RIAA doesn't much care, and I could see them trying to sue Sony easily.

The second I hear a Musician playing "Hit Me Baby, One More Time" in Star Wars Galaxies is the day I hit the Cancel button.
That's the problem with the idea - it sucks, but there needs to be a level of control over it.
And as Javy put it, yeah - RIAA has already had enough of their "fun." Why give them more targets for their witch hunt.
Funny how they refuse to believe that the music they championed in the past few years SUCKED really bad for the most part, and they replicated the boy bands ad nauseum until it was SO overdone no one cared.
Bah, that whole situation has always gotten me riled up. Best not to think about it.
To the original poster: such a system would be both AWESOME and WRETCHED for this game, which is the problem. Fabulous for those of us who are musically inclined and understand what's appropriate for SWG. Nightmarish for the guy who figures out "Ice, Ice Baby" in the system and plays it in his underwear.
