Thread: Rant on group issues

Ok, so I know these issues could not possibly be this simplistic, else they would have been taken care of long ago, but I just sat in a group in Coronet as leader with my hands tied because several spots were taken up by people who logged off before disbanding, therefore securing themselves a spot in the group as long as that group is intact. Because of this, I've gotten a little irritated and begun thinking about why this is possible. My thoughts are:

1. The logout command is not properly disbanding you from a group when you log out.

2. Because the system doesn't know where you are, it assumes you are "Out of Range", and therefore cannot be kicked out of a group.

Now, my overly simplistic thoughts on how to solve these things. Somebody please point out to me why exactly these suggestions are a bad idea.

1. This could be solved by initiating a /disband command every time someone hits the logout button or issues the /logout command. No new programming, just using what you've already got there. Just add a /disband right at the beginning of the logout sequence.

2. Why exactly are you restricted to a specific range when kicking people from a group? I can't possibly see using the kick command as a way of griefing, as the leader is the only one that can do it and they can only do it once (unless you are invited back and accept). So why exactly can't we kick a person from the group wherever they are? I do believe this would give the leader of the group the ability to correct the issue at hand, because now the system doesn't really care where you are, just that you're no longer a part of this particular group.

As I said, I like to believe that the people working on this game are smart enough to come up with these solutions, and the fact that they are not already implemented must indicate that it's not quite this simple. So would somebody please point out what I'm overlooking?

**edit** I know this isn't exactly a musician only issue, but it seems to me that it would affect entertainers more than anybody else, so that's why it's here. **/edit**

As one who has FREQUENTLY ended up the leader of one Entertainer Group or another, I would DEARLY love to be able to kick those who have logged out without disbanding, gone LD or even who have simply traveled out of range. As it is, if the group becomes too full of such dead beats, all that can be done is to disband and reform the group... and tough luck on anyone who was afk and didn't get the warning about what was going to happen.

You would think it is an easy fix. The situation didn't exist until they changed the way people disappeared after logging. When they shortened that the new condition appeared. Prior to the change a person who went LD while flourishing hung around on your client forever which made it easy to remove them from the group but was frustrating in other ways as they clutered an already clutered cantina.

The problem with a /disband on LD is that sometimes people crash. I know..crashing during the game is unheard of <giggle>. So that's the only bad thing about that. When I get leader I try to remind people as they are out of range in tells to disband and stuff. <shrug>

When they LD because they crashed, they usually come right back. They don't always however... and by the time you know that they aren't coming back, they have vanished. As for reminding people out of range to disband... sometimes they will and sometimes they won't even reply to the request.

I believe it is somewhat better than it used to be.

People who log will disappear from the group eventually. I think it can take up to 2 hours though. After the change that made people poof faster from the world, people would NEVER disappear from group.

Lets just hope that kicking from group anywhere is added when invite from anywhere is implemented.

I just recently mastered musician, did it a long time ago for a holo and always wanted to get back to it lol

so i mastered musician and am almost master tailor. got to say I am having alot of fun doing both its a great way to take a break from combat and killing the same ole stuff day in and day out lol Its like taking a vacation and I have had alot of laughs and met all good people in groups :-)

oh and i do realise now many arent afk just chatting in group chat lol

anyways back to the topic lol

while grinding out musician and chatting with new friends I heard a guy say if he ld's not to try and get rid of him that even if its 6 hrs when he logs back in he will recieve full xp as though he never ld'd.

never tried it myself and wouldn't care too but if this is true it would explain why many dont care if they ld.

its also true some people just don't realise if half the group is ld they take something from us all. others just make bad macro's lol

I am not sure what will happen to macro's but it seems it may solve some of this since being atk will probably be needed to play for any prolonged amount of time.

either way it wont change what i do lol playing music rocks atk lol

But if we could limit this problem to only people who crash, the major portion of the problem would already be solved.

I agree.

If he wasn't misinformed or joking with you, he knows a trick I do believe the devs would be rather interested in seeing. (welcome back to the musician profession, btw!)

There was something else I intended to add to this conversation, but fatigue has caused me to forget. Therefore if I remember I will come back to try again.

edited because forgot to use "preview post", nor did I remember how to use HTML.
