Thread: Getting tired of using Western and Virtuoso for Mind buffs...solutions?

Can you use other songs for a mind buff and will it effect duration? I usually switch instruments between the 2 songs just to make life interesting but Id really be able to play the other pieces we have available to us for cantina customers. Thoughts? Knowledge base seems to say that using lower level songs like Jazz for instance or starwars 2 will lessen the duration. Is this right? Thanks!

As far as I understand, it does not matter in the slightest what song (or instrument) you play when buffing. What does matter is number of Flourishes performed while the patron is /listening to you .The listener must listen for the minimum 1 minute +how fast you can play those 60 Flourishes. The end result is a maximum buff duration of two hours and a few mintues.

Buff with any tune you care to, with any device you care to.

You can use any song/instrument you prefer to give out your buffs. Personally, I don't bother using either the Omni Box or the Nalargon because of Targetting issues (I like to select my client and just type /setperform). What affects the buff durration is how long you play & how many flourishes you do. If you do 60 flourishes, the buff will be max durration of 2 hours.

You can also use /changemusic or /changeband to change the songs without affecting the buffs. Just don't stop playing to switch instruments during the buff . I'll often play different songs through out an evening and run my buff macro against the current song when someone requests a buff. Now that buffs are so quick I don't change songs midway much but if I've gotten tired of hearing SW1 I'm not oppossed to switching to SW3 during a buff and it has no impact.

I believe that technically song or instrument does have an effect on buffs. If I remember corrrectly, song choice will change how fast a full power buff is confered. However the difference is such that you'd never notice. I recall hearing that on Virtuoso a full power buff reaches its power after a single flourish whereas Starwars1 you need 3 whole flourishes. As I said......you'll never notice unless you are trying to do flourish free buffs (which would now take 10 minutes instead of 20).

As others have said, song and instrument make no difference in buff duration.

Wow one flourish versus three! Man the design decisions in this game simply amaze me sometimes lol.

I like buffing with the chid horn while playing western, best if done if you are the only one playing.

Always get responses from it.
