I don't think I can keep kidding myself and hold onto the musician profession anymore.
I've been a musician since launch.
I went on a crazy crusade to get Jedi.
I succeeded and then immediately went back to my original template of master musician.
When I chose to be a musician at launch, it was because I believed that all professions and all styles of play would be equal and would have thier own in-game content... all unique to the many different paths this game had to offer.
I watched all my entertainer-friends vanish as we discovered this was not the case.
When I chose to resume my musician profession after going through (What I, an immersive role-player, deemed) the horrible process of unlocking my ultimate role as a true Jedi... it was due to blind loyalty.
I'm loyal to a fault at times.
It's time for me to stop being so thick-headed and realise that even if they ever shift thier attention to the entertainers, it likely will not be in a direction that I would enjoy anyway.
The Devs have never once showed any interest in the players that truly play the musician profession...
We've gone through a lot of issues (AFK Bots, Ent mission terminal payouts of 200 credits, little-to-no income, no village quest capabilities, 400k xp payment for only song/dance addition AFTER completing a quest, and now competing against jukeboxes with 29 tracks of movie soundtrack music for live entertainment).
And that's only the in-game problems.
We've never had our issues directly addressed by anyone from SOE on these boards... except for a suggestion that we "respec" until non-combat professions get a revamp.
I just wanted to let you know, due to this latest show of indifference to my chosen profession since launch... I am dropping it.
The profession is dead and I'm not willing to wait around for them to attempt a revival.
Nor do I wish to continuously hang on, only to have them proclaim the entertainers truly dead and eliminated from the game.
I love this game. Supporting the unique entertainer professions of this game would have made it much more sweet.
I, for one, am giving up on it though.
May the force be with you.

Sorry to hear that. Not that I can't understand you, I know exactly what you're talking about.
For all my usual cynicism, I don't like to sound like a prophet of doom, but unfortunately I agree with you - musicians and dancers are on their way out, and I fully expect the entertainer professions to be officially removed from further development and made into a purely "flavor" pastime without any impact on game mechanics within this year.
Or hell, maybe they'll just scrap them completely because they can't be bothered to listen to our complaints about this at all.
Either way, I'd like to point out that at no point a revamp was promised to us. There was only talk of "non-combat professions", but nowhere was it stated that we would be included in that revamp.
There won't be a revamp for us, ever. Because even if they should have vague plans to give us a work over (and I don't for a minute fool myself into assuming that), by the time it gets to be our turn, this so-called "exciting new play-style" will be borked beyond recovery, and they'll just write it off as a failed experiment. What do you want to bet that when they finally get around to addressing the AFK issue, they'll take the easy way out yet again and do it in such a way that it may shut down AFK looters, but that AFK buffbots will still be able to operate?
I'm getting really sick and tired of all this crap, of paying the same subscription as the average Combat Joe, but forbeing treated as a 3rd rate citizen anyway (with the smugglers being 2nd rate - they have it as bad as us content-wise, but at least they get regular reassurances by the Devs that improvements are on their way. We don't even warrant that little courtesy. Ever ask yourself why??). Yesterday is the first day since I started playing SWG in beta 3 that I started to entertain the notion that I might leave this game one day...
However, I'm not quite there yet, and I also won't drop musician until I'm forced to do so by the game mechanics. The day that happens (and I fully expect that day to come, maybe this year, but next year at the latest) will be the day that I'll seriously start to consider turning my back on all this.
I wish you all the best, omadnay. May you find the fun and enjoymentthat's slowly being bled out of the entertainer professions elsewhere in this game.
Good luck.

You'll be missed around here...perhaps you will find a reason to return to Musician sometime in the future...I hope.
I sincerely hope you're wrong with your predictions of a half-baked /rez of the Entertainment professions after the Devs get through creating, rebalancing, and revamping powergaming content. Against my hopes, you're probably right--they don't really care one whit about us.Still, it is my intention for the Devs to have to pry the Mandoviol from my cold dead fingers before I give up....
Good luck, and have fun out there!

Omanday I can't say I blame you. This jukebox was almost the last straw for me. I'm going to keep performing because I have too many friends that I enjoy doing this with. Well that and a few of the dancers threatened me within an inch of my life if I quit
.
Seriously I think the music profession is dead and the devs just haven't had the guts to admit it to us yet. Why else would they intentionally remove our viability as a special events participant in favor of an NPC provided music source? However until the functionality ceases to work and my friends leave the profession I'll be here strumming away on my mando and performing the mellow sounds of my fanfar for Imaji to dance to.

I think the kindest excuse would be...it never occurred to them that it would bother us, because they keep forgetting that we want to play and feel like contributing members of the community.
I'm seriously thinking about dropping all Entertainer skills and becoming a Bounty Hunter/Smuggler//Pistoleer pistol-queen. I'll still be pathetic, but at least I'll be a combat monkey like everyone else, so I'll get to actually participate in some content...like taking a mission on the same Jedi my other four BH friends just did, and ganking her while her mates can't do anything but stand by and watch.
