Thread: How To Make Money As A Musician...
If you want to end up on everyones ignore list - spam away.
Cheers, Salome
Blowack,
Of all the musicians in RL, the majority are not the richest people in the world.
Just letting you know that ![]()
The most popular ones are. Their SWG would have about the same weight as a well-known Master Musician.
Also, the logic behind it is economically-sound. Let them put me on their ignore list, it is them that won't be receiving the service.
I think that this would be a pivotal and valuable contribution to the player-economy.

I have been talking to people about this on the Shadowfire boards for a bit and I figured I'd impart this on all you fellow musicians out there struggling to make a living doing what you love to do.
First, a little lesson in the media and advertising courtesy of Economics 101 and a Journalism major at my university. Nobody pays for network television. Nobody pays for the radio. How do these most basic forms of entertainment happen then you ask? Advertising and sponsorships, of course! Why not apply the same model to the SWG-universe? It is rare that anyone actually pays for entertainment, which by the way is not a luxury but a necessary service in SWG. Therefore, cantinas are run rampant with either AFK-Musicians who think what's the use in providing live entertainment; or cantinas are left empty of entertainers because it is nearly impossible to maintain a living being one.
Here is my simple proposal: Musicians, seek sponsorship by a guild of merchants, or just one wealthy merchant. Whether you use macros or not, insert paid advertisements into your songs once every two minutes or so. Charge a flat weekly fee or an hourly charge for this service and actually follow through on your promise. It sounds a little strange in theory, but this is the real world model. If SWG has a player-run economy, then why shouldn't it have a player-run media. I have spread this around the AH/Bestine area of my server and have already accepted many offers to run ads in the two cantinas as I play.
Many of you may find this practice a bit odd. You may think that people will complain about comercials just being spam. **edit** right its spam, but aren't real comercials the same thing. Let them think about it for a second. If they don't like the ads, let em put you on ignore. They can either pay someone to heal their mind privately or they can deal with no heals. Why should a necessary service such as entertainment be free? People bring up the argument that we get Exp. for playing. Well, didn't that weaponsmith that made a T21 get loads of Exp. for making it? And nobody has any qualms about forking over 20k for that. Now, all we ask is they view an advertisement every two minutes or so so we can buy resources, clothes, and houses, and all of a sudden they raise a stink. Doesn't seem to make sense to me.
Let us remember, musicians in real life are some of the richest people in the world because they provide a unique service. SWG should be no different. Go out there and get yourself a sponsorship. It'll make the game more fun and more profitable for you.

Of course the most popular ones are rich, or they wouldnt be so popular. But your saying Musicians in RL are some of the richest people in the world. On top of which, half the pop singers are not even musicians.......they are people with a look, that some producer has a sound studiodigitally over dub, to make them sound good.
Forevery Great musician in RL that is loaded.....I can give you 20 great musicians that are not, and are scrapping to get buy. So your post about how easy it is as a musician to make money is not sound....you compare it toRL..........But you have know Idea what it is like as a Musician in RL. I do.![]()
Also, withentertainment being a Needed commodity in SWG, it makes the comparison flawed just due to the fact entertainment inRL is not a Needed commodity. Your Idea may work for you, but for it to work for everyone?????????? I dunno about that, I would have to see it to believe it.
I do like the fact you think outside the box though )
spamming may not be the best way to get people's attention. but, if someone says specifically that they're looking for something, it'd be in your best interest to tell them that you know this and this about what the'yre looking for. Or, you could hold a few specific items from someone looking for an alternative to selling on the bazaar and try to sell them (but not via spamming) to the public.
Like I'm trying to sell food for a friend of mine. It works, and I don't keep the money. Generally, he pays me back. I don't use fixed rates, good stuff comes to those who wait. (amazing enough, people come into the cantina looking for food! aahhh! listen to the holocron! be a chef!)
If I started advertising, I'd get the odd feeling that I'd be singing to a Pepsi commercial. Thanks, but I'll stay away from that deal. Especially Britney Spears (which by the way, I saw her in the airport drinking Coke. At least she does have a bit of sanity.)

Livin' La Vida Lowca
I bribe entertainers with clothes
Master tailor and architect on my main character, so i go and make clothes for all the entertainers in the cantina and only ask that if they hear of anyone in need of houses, harvesters or furnityure if they could send them to my shop or refer them to me
Not spam an ad, altho some have put my shop location in their profile (i didnt ask for that). Not sure if i have gotten any business from it but its fun to go and play dress up with a class of people who care a lot about the way they look ![]()
Motrum I totally feel you on this one. I wish that musicians where the richest in the world. I think you have been watching too much tv blowack. I do like the idea though... but I think it would become very annoying in general to all involved except afkers and if you have ever seen this forum before you would know that most people on here hate afkers (after getting mm of course).
Just my 2 notes,
Brog
