So let's say you're starting a new guild or player city. What's the hardest thing to do. That's right, recruit new members! So you go to Mos Eisley, and try to find some of the newbies who aren't already affiliated. But they're rightfully scared and suspicious of just following some random person who says you want them to join their guild or city. How do they know if you're a fun guild? How do they know if your city is even worthwhile?
Lots of people reach this step, and to try to fix the fear and suspicion, they bribe the newbie. "Here's 20k credits and a bike for you to trust me and do what I say for the next 30 minutes." Sure, this will sometimes work, but it doesn't lay the groundwork at all for loyalty. As the newbie grows up, he'll keep looking for the fun part of the game, and will be happy to split when he sees the opportunity. "Thanks for the starting money. I'm all set now, and I think I'll be better off with those guys. Bye!"
Compare that to the experience tonight, which I'll paraphrase as best I can.
GuildLeader (GL) [happens to be a master dancer]: /t Scip Hey, I have a recruit, but I'm not sure he's comfortable joining the guild. Can you meet us at the guild hall?
Me: /r sure, be right there!
...
GL: Hey Scip! Talk to the recruit while I run inside and get things set up.
Me & Recruit: How you doing, etc. Nice to meet you.
-guild tag appears-
Me & GL: /congratulate recruit
GL: Ok recruit, you can have your honorary duel with the guildleader now!
Recruit: Um ok, but you'll kick my ass I'm sure.
Me [having won my honorary duel earlier]: Don't worry, the leader does sometimes lose the honorary duel; /sneer GL
GL: /tongue Scip
Recruit: lol [the first of many]
-duel ensues and recruit falls incapped-
Me: /emote helps recruit up; /say Ah well, good show. Party time!
-I pull out my mandoviol and song droid, ready to play some music. GL starts dancing. This is all happening outside, under some palm trees-
GL: [afraid of me dancing] NO NO NO, No dancing, Scip!
Recruit: lol
Me: Shush, I can dance if I want to.
GL: No you can't, I dance much better than you.
Me: Never said you couldn't, but I can hold my own. [playing my music by now]
Recruit: She does dance better than you. [joining in the conversation now]
GL: And all the male players will say I dance better, especially when I wear this. [take a guess what outfit was donned]
Recruit: Oooh. Yep, she's right.
Me: Enough with the mocking. /stopmusic; /duel GL
GL: Uh oh. Get ready to watch me die horribly, recruit. /duel Scip
-few hits, and GL is down [made master TK tonight
] -
Recruit: Ouch, that had to hurt.
GL: You have no idea.
Recruit: Actually, that's how I was a few minutes ago with you dueling me! lol
Me: How does it feel to get beat by a mandoviol!
GL: Yeah, at least you didn't get killed by an instrument.
Recruit: lol
Me: And now, since you insist so much I can't dance, I'm going to dance! Keep the music going Miles [droid]; /startdance poplock
GL: NOOOOOO!
Recruit: lol
[and the kicker]
Recruit: Wow, you guys do know how to have fun. lol
GL: /t Scip yay! I think he's one of us, he gets to stay
I left out some parts, such as when the GL gave me a dog biscuit for stopping my dancing, my spitting it back at her, and then wiping the crumbs off her shirt, her saying that her boyfriend would kick my ass but then backing down on the threat when I reminded her I had a mandoviol, the recruit being impressed with our music and effects droids, us showing off holoemotes, and the recruit laughing all the way.
When I've been recruited by combat guilds on other servers, nothing like that sort of interaction ever happened
. The silliness that we do all the time in the cantinas won him over, and I went home proud of a job well done. This post is too long. Ending now.

Lol great stuff - pity on Chimaera entertainer interaction is practically 100% dead. I haven't yet seen a entertainer who actually interacts with the community, except the odd 4 - 5 image designers.
Great to see some social Musicians - good laugh to

Then you have been in the wrong locations. I often se entertainers on Chim who interacts with the community. I do not do so my self, I stick to chatting on the groupchat when I am forced to go out in public. However I have seen many entertainers trying to interact with the community, often to be met with a death silence from the audience.

Yup. Also, more often than not, players have mentioned the fact that they don't particularly like being chatted to in a cantina. I think a lot of players want it both ways. They want to see social interaction in cantinas, but only as long as it doesn't mean that they're expected to get involved. It's one thing to voluntarily join in an interesting conversation. It's quite another to be forced to interact by being asked "Hi %NT, how was your day?"
When I'm in a chatty mood I just put my thoughts out there, kinda like "Wow, this place is buzzing tonight!" or "Boy! I'm tired today - /yawn". That is the best way I've found to get people to talk without forcing a conversation down their throats.

For me, I was at a lost to find social interaction on Bria for the longest time. Then I discovered Chat Channels. I created "ent" chat on Bria and after much nagging, alot of email and some word of mouth, you can now find LIVE entertainers there almost 24/7.
It is easier than ever now to maintain a chat channel. Set one up on your server. Tell a few people, have them tell a few people and before you know it, you'll have a social hangout accesible from anywhere in the galaxy.
