I do not know how many can remember this as it is from many years ago, before MP3's became a standard in music and most games still used midi music. Back then there was a music format called modules (mod), in essence it was a series of wav samples and data on when each sample was to be played in each track.
Now why can we not get such a tool in game for composing. It would hold the song name (say SW1) and the have a line for each instrument, a simple number from 0 to 9 could determine what flourish each instrument preformed, with 0 being none and 9 making the instrument pause.
If these songs was stored client side like macros are they would not take up server space (if that is an issue).
It is essentially what I am currently doing, except I have to write macros. Macros that contain bandflo's for each and every instrument, and with out the ability to pause anyone but my own instrument.
It should not take a skilled programmer long to create such a system, and it would help thoughts of us that compose a lot.

Interesting idea. However, I think we're more likely to get a /pauseband command than this kind of tool, simply because what you're talking about can all be done with macros already.

But kudos for the thought... It's got me thinking that I could write a program that would be run outside of the game, that would simply let you pick the instruments and flourishes, and it would write the macro for you. Then all you'd have to do is cut-and-paste it in to a new macro window. Would anyone be interested in this if I put it together? Any other features you'd like to see?

A save and load function to a data format would be nice. So that the composition did not have to me made in one sit in, or so modification could be made to a peace later on.
A cut and past function in the place what the music is written to paste in a chorus between two verses.

And for a really really ambitious project, a play function yes I know it would properly be to much to even dream about, but I can just imagine my self sitting an playing a song, and the tweaking it bit and then playing it again and so on...

Yeah I'd definately make sure you could save and load. Otherwise it would just be a pain in the butt.

Copy and paste is something I hadn't thought of, but would definately be useful.

Playback? LOLwow... that would be freaking awesome, wouldn't it? Hmm... definately a long-term implementation.

And just to make sure - don't anybody get their hopes up... I may or may not make this program, and it may or may not take a while if I decide to do it. What tends to happen when I writea program is that it starts out simple, and then I keep getting ideas for making it better and it ends up taking me a while to do it.

Hmm... sounds strangely familiar... OMG I'M A DEV!

I wish I had the skills to make such programs, unfortunately I never got around to learn programming for windows, so my skills became outdated when DOS did.
Anyway good luck with it if you do take it on
