The other night I was dancing in Theed, working my poor little toes up to Master, when I hear the inevitable, "Free Buffs" come from the bottom of the stairs. Now, being the curious sort that I am, I asked this person, why he was offering free mind buffs. I figured that even the bots welcome the occasional tip. This person was actually at his keyboard and told me that he was just trying to get people to pay attention to him so he could get experience. He even stated that it would be nuts to buff for free otherwise. Now for a Novice Musician, I take this as an acceptable answer. I even told him as much. A live musician just trying to work the angles in a full room. He wasn't spamming (yet), so it was all perfectly fine in my book.
However, when I checked him out I noticed that he was playing SW1 on a Slitherhorn. I asked if he was a Musician, but he confirmed my fears that he was still only a Novice Entertainer. How do you think that would have gone over in the long run?
I found the whole thing kind of amusing, so I invited him to my group and helped him out with some of the finer points of entertaining. Iexplainedbuffs to him (and flourishes, he didn't even know that much yet) and suggested that others might have been a little irked to have been misled in such a manner. I think I may have saved the reputation and/or life of a young entertainer and I hope I helped him down a path of live entertaining.

P.S. I may have forgotten to mention recursive macros in my lessons. Alas, there is so much to our profession, I can't be expected to remember to teach him everything, can I?

Yes I've seen a Master Ent shouting about Free buffs in my wanderings. The spam tells them to just watch him for x minutes. I was wondering at first if it might have been an anti-bot tactic by some one but quickly decided it was just some idiot trying to get xp in a very lame way.

Or, more than likely, these Novice Entertainers have been "taught" by the buffbot that this is the way things work because of what they see day in and day out in the Cantina. Yet one more reason that buffbots are a detriment to our professions.

Isn't my darling so thoughtful and considerate? I would have probably decked the fool and asked questions later! LOL!
First, I can't understand why anyone in the Master Entertainer tree would think that they could give buffs. Second, I can't believe that someone would be willing to trick people into watching or listening to them with such a ruse!
Just one more thing that live entertainers have to fight against to protect our profession and reputations . . . /sigh

Admittedly, this was my first thought, but I figured that attacking him wouldn't help our cause any.

I talked to the kid for a while. He really didn't know that he couldn't buff. He thought that any entertainer could do it

Similarily I was in Theed this morning and had to "edumacate" a couple combat types on proper buffing etiquette. One had never received a buff before and the other was trying to instruct him about grouping and such. I was polite but firm and they were both pleased to be dealing with a LIVE entertainer for once. The lesson, given in spatial as I wanted everyone around to hear, sparked a discussion on the group chat, as well. It was a very pleasant, if short, time in Theed for me.
