Thread: Musician Crafting
You can experiment on your instruments and increase their quality and durability, which is pretty much something you can do in anything you can craft. Quality doesnt effect anything. You will always play your music and get the same experience regardless of that. Durability should effect the item condition, but after making an instrument there is no condition 1000/1000 like most items with decay. I think that instruments should have Decay that can be repaired.
I feel right now i am rushing to get my instrument creation abilities now that I am a Novice musician because if people buy instruments from everyone else, it will take away from my ability to make money that i need to train. Eventually everyone will have their instruments and there wont be much use in making them anymore. There will always be a use for it as new players will always be coming in, or old ones dabbling in other professions, but there is no time like right now.
In beta we had discussed the possiblity of consumnables for entertainers as well, things like picks, reeds, strings, polish, whatever. Same thing for dancers with shoes, clothes. Also dazzle, spotlight, colorlight, distract, etc dont require anything. If they required some props as well it would go a long way. Also Speakers and microphones are also not able to be made, which may or may not be included in player cantina's by default. Once at mastery, entertainers have no money sink except clothes, and perhaps image design. I would also light to see the ability to make different color instruments. Or to be able to put your band name on your nalargon (like bands do with bass drums).
Lastly, there should be powerups and powerup slots for instruments. I should be able to put a special reed to boost my range, or use some device to increase my healing skill.
I like a lot of these ideas.
The way I see it is, the first people to get a skill have to sell instruments for credits with which to pay for training. (Even with all the Kloo and Fanfar I've sold [somewhere around7 total, so far], I'm still 5k short for my next skill box...) With more folks entering novice musician level, it'll become harder and harder for me to sell instruments.
I'd be happy to train anyone for free, but I would hold the trainee up to not undercutting me on instrument prices--or at least tip very well for the training. Otherwise, I'm effectively giving people free rides at my own expense of time and credits (not something I'm prepared to do).
Putting decay on instruments would help preserve their value as the market gets saturated, but it certainly won't be enough to sway the number of instruments that will enter it.
In the same line, I'd like to be able to buy a deed and be able to set up a Cantina (say, near some factionpost), but I don't see any way to get something that resembles a stage.
Any ideas?

These are ideas are rad! I hope the DEZ team catches on to this msg!

The trumpet I own will never disintegrate because part of my training as a musician (the earliest part before I even got to play it) was learning how to clean and maintain a trumpet. At college I learned some advanced tricks in keeping a trumpet working and fixing some of the worst stuck valves and whatnot. (although, if you don't drop your trumpet you won't need to know those tricks!)
In game, if I find better material or can afford it later I will make new instruments, one of each type of the best material available to me, and play on each one on a regular basis. I'll just destroy my old ones, or maybe the market will be better by then. Right now it seems glutted with instruments but whomever can get to tyrea or kor vella first with instruments to sell will make a killing.
I'd like to be able to craft *songs*! Or at least make my PC keyboard approximate a real keyboard, so I can play my own music. Alternatively, I'd like more songs in general. Anyone know if the devs have promised us more songs in the long run?
Does anyone have the schematics for the instruments? I want to know what I need to start surveying for.
Thank you in advance,
