Please come join our regular band-ish band on Chilastra/Corellia in Coronet. We'd be glad to have you. We play at the Cantina in Coronet city everynight and we have a few little tricks worked out for the audience. We're hoping to get something more organized going on as soon as a few of us hit master.

what's up with band experience?

I stumbled onto the commands for leading band flourishes, but the people that played with me said they didn't get xp when I was leading the band. That seems wrong. I dont think I was even getting anything extra for leading, so whats the point of the band commands other than to put on a show (wherein only the maistro gets xp?)

Other than putting on a show? Well, there isn't much point other than that to be honest. Now everyone will get exp, but it's just the exp from playing normally not performing flourishes.

Seriously though, don't tell me it's not so cool to see an entire band do a little chorus line leg kick! *g*

Everyone's welcome to join up, if we get too many we can start a smaller band up at the hotel

Anyone interested in helping with a ticketmaster-type website for listing your band and concert dates, contact me (Kora) or Jakob in game on Chilastra server. We're crunching the details now and would love to have some people add their input and abilities for promotion of the site or development of said site.

It is all about putting on a show. It isn't about exp. (/bandflourish I mean. Yes I know sometimes playing in general IS about exp)

But remember the day is coming sooner rather than later when all the Musicians that want to fill their skill trees have, and whole bands don't want exp anymore.

No one will care what song they play, or if they can play their highest level instrument. One guy will play the Nalargon and another the Kloo Horn just to flesh out the sound. Add a Mandoviol, an Ommni Box and a Traz or more. Compose your routines, plan your visual effects and /bandflourish baby, /bandflourish.

Yeah, when nobody in the band needs exp, that is when the really good shows will start. /bandflourish as it works now is just sitting there waiting for those days.

Some good places: definitely Coronet (hey there, Kora, gotta stop by again one day). The Theed Cantina is *always* hopping. I mean "sorry, we can't fit any more people into the band" hopping. And if I may toot my own horn (pftt.. I crack myself up), we've got a decent group playing the Restuss Hotel on Rori. Most of our members are out touring the galaxy right now, but we should be getting back soon. I've also heard some good things about the Tattoine cantinas, but I haven't had a chance to make it out there yet.

As for /bandflourish, in order to remove the possibility of AFK performers getting experience, only the person executing the /band gets xp. However, the bandflourish still costs everyone action points, and fills up their flourish queue (you can only have 5 flourishes queued up). Of course, most people just make an hour+ macro, but that's beside the point. So if you're in a band where people are activitely trying get xp, when you do /bandflourish, you "rob" them of those points (please note the quotation marks, I am being sarcastic there). And when you've got people doing their own flourishes, the band ones don't sync up right anyways. Personally, I don't mind the occasional one, but try not to overdo it...

Some great benefits of a band, if you newbies haven't caught the info: you get more xp in larger groups; more people playing makes for a more interesting show so more people come to watch and stay longer (also more xp). And their are almost always people who can train you when you level. Just be polite andat least offerthem a tip. I tend to tip 10-20% of the NPC training cost, but nine times out of ten, they hand it back with a smile and "no need".

Come to the Coronet cantina. We have a great group of people there who are willing to perform with other entertainers regardless of skill level. We do our best to play songs that everyone can play. I look forward to performing with you.
