Thread: Alternative to Band Flourishes

I am still seeing a lot of people complain about band flourishes. The way I see it there are two things you can do about this as it stands.

1. When you start playing / dancing, turn off band flourishes using /bandfl off.

2. Want to do the synced sound and chorus line routine, you can. Just as you rehearse a band in real life, do the same here.

e.g. Put together a little phrase, let's call it A. A consists of a lead of 8, followed by everyone with 4, 2, 1.

This is executed as follows: You choose someone to lead and watch them closely.

You can all be jamming happily and as soon as they shout A in group chat, start watching them and be ready

When you see them execute the animation that is linked with 8 (for most instruments it is going down low) press 4 then 2 then 1 with no pauses in between. You will all sync beautifully as though it were a band flourish, only you all get the xp for it, if someone makes a mistake you can keep rehearsing. Great fun and adds to the sense of forming a proper band in game.

If that does not give you a headache and you are playing with people on a regular basis, create B.. C.. etc. Put together a little rondo, ABACABA. Have fun with it! I hope that helps some of you out there

Good post. Lately I've been trying to get my fellow bandmates to do some of the same. Timed /flos can work, as you say. In addition, in some tunes, it's interesting for some instruments to play one flourish while others play another. In the Empire theme, say, it's nice to have the kloo horns playing flo 6 while the other horns play flo 3.

I also would like to see my bands experiment more with fade-ins and fade-outs, solos, and the like. E.g.,have onlya slitherhorn start a tune; then add a fizz; then a kloo horn; then bandfill; then ommni; etc.Sometimes I'd like to see the whole band except, say, the drums suddenly stop -- and then a drum solo.Heck, each player should get a solo -- even a spotlight, middle of the dance floor, whatever. Dancers should try the same -- have a featured dancer for 45 seconds or so.

Finally, I think we musicians need to work on /bow! Best to do it simultaneously.

Good suggestions all around New Jedi.

One thing I've worked on is getting 4 or 5 in a row and alternating the flourishes like this:
The first person and all odd people do 6 the evens take 1. sounds nice on folk.
Also, move the spin. flo 5 is a spin in most instruments, move it down the line like this:
person1: 5362
person2: 6532
person3: 6352
person4: 2365

The even numbered spins have to have 6 infront or the animation won't work try this one too:
person1: 5362
person2: 6512
And alternate down the line or get the first half of the line to do the same and the second half to to the alternate and spin half the band at once.

Hey Kora, I'm on Chilastra too. I think I may have jammed with you in Theed. (I'm the guy in the white Elvis outfit, drinking whiskey and trying to hide my insecurities.) I know that my instruments compete with your fine hand-crafted wares on the bazaar.

And those are great ideas about timing spins. I hadn't thought of that.

I like all of these ideas! One question though just to confirm... Macros are a no-no when trying to do something like this, right? Just assign the flourishes to the hotkeys, and time it properly?

That's right, just time it properly without macros. Though I suppose if you wanted you could set up a lead macro and a follow macro... *shrug*

Seems to me that there will be enough masters in the near future that working around /bandflourish is unnecessary. You can even '/bandflourish <#> <instrument>' to control the sections, so there isn't much point in having each person learn your routines. Just tell them not to touch anything... hehe

Forgive me if im being a noob.

Does a masters /bandflo give appropriet exp? becouse at lower lvls it does not give bandmembers musician exp.

It is nice to spice up the lower levels a bit! And get the exp you need!

I am starting to do this in my local cantina, even writing some of my own stuff.

Will share more later!

We say it is something reserved for masters because they don't need any more music xp.

The one band I was with had the band leader calling the flourishes in group chat.

group> 44722

group> mark

When the leader called out 'mark' we'd all hit the function keys in the order specified. Worked pretty well.
