Thread: Player Cantina's need a small boost

The cycle is that people goto the big cities like Theed and Coronet to get their wounds healed because that's where the musicians are and muscians likewise go to Theed and Coronet because that's where the patrons are and the cycle continues.

If your a master musician and belong to a big guild you most likely havean empty cantina in a player city. I think to rectify a few small changes would help things out

-Reduced HAM cost on flourishes

-modest exp modifier for playing in a player cantina vs a regular cantina

I would also like to see the master musician or dancer that places a cantina get a "doorman" NPC that acts much like a PC vendor. This NPC would greet someone at the door with a message that the player could create, like " This weekend appearing at Jharm's Cantina the XXXXX band" and also charge a cover for people wishing to enter the Cantina.

Some neat idea's!

Also a bit of a prob is Theed/Coro are main hubs for Dath and Endor Dant etc.

This also makes these Cities well traveled.

not a bad idea.

another problem about player cantinas is people need something to draw them out to those places.

dont know what it would be but possibilites include near major dungeons/hunting grounds, good shopping, etc.

It's just a matter of presentation and the crowd you go after. While it isn't Theed or Coronet, my cantina has been staffed probably at least half the time the servers are up since it was placed. And I don't mean just me. I've had as many as 15-20 people in there at a time between entertainers and patrons.

I really like the idea of slightly lower Action costs for flourishes. It's hard to play the Ommni or Narlagon as a Twi'lek (with crappy Stamina) for very long without sucking down those Tatooine Sunburns or finding a friendly Doctor...though the former is certainly appropriate for a Cantina! Or would a 10% bonus rate to Stamina while in the Cantina/Theatre work in the place of reduced Action costs for flourishing? Just trying to think of what might be easier to code.

A 5% boost to Music and Dance Mind Enhancement while in player Cantinas and Theatres might be nice, too.

Whats up with twi'lek stats vs human stats? Is it a bug that humans can get all their stats (Including secondaries) up to 1100 but twi'lek can only get up to 750/450 for quickness and stamina?

Well you can decorate it nice (I have screenshots of mine in the entertainer forum) and give it the little touches - tables and chairs for people to sit at, a bartender with drinks for sale.. Make it inviting as the local hangout where people come after they are done for the day. Remember, entertainers need people to entertain as much as people need entertainers to be entertained by. The trick is getting both there at once.

My cantina is in a well established city. We have been in our current location since week 2 or 3. (Not me personally, but as a random player at the time, I had heard of the city) That is a less realized benefeit of cantinas.. An architect that lives right next door has started parking himself in the cantina while he works on stuff. He told me he's seen a dramatic increase in sales as a result. If you can get entertainers there and people there, then crafters and suppliers will come as well. You're well on your way to being the city hangout.

So how do you do all that? That's easy. Hold an event there. Announce it on your server's event thread. That will eventually get reposted by the devs and show up in the devtracker so people who only skim the server boards but follow dev posts will get a chance to hear about it. Make it something people will want to come to. Be creative. Or be quick when you see the chance. My cantina opened with a "Kettemoor's sexiest man" competition that sprung up out of two people claiming the title in their signatures. And despite the headaches that the event caused, it put my place on the map so to speak.

But perhaps what has kept people there is that I do care who they are that comes to entertain, and I have no qualms about banning and/or deathblowing anyone that I don't want there. I have the militia and the mayor's support in that too. Specifically in this case I do not allow any AFK entertainers at all. I tell those that entertain there that if they need to go do something, they find a chair first. As a result, I have had quite a few people take up the place entirely on their own. I didn't beg for people, I didn't even ask anyone to come. Everyone at my cantina is there because they want to be. It is a fun, lively place.

Of course, no garuntees that will work for you, but it has worked for me so far. And once the shuttleport is in (I almost mistyped that in such a way as it would get an *edit*) my aspirations are to make it THE hang-out for the entire server. A bit lofty? Maybe. Will I ever get to that point? Who knows. But I'm going to do my best to try.

agree with your ideas

personally I wish they would nerf all ent healing outside of cantinas/theaters to like 10%?

of course the NPC cantinas and theaters could still keep their same healing rates

but if it's going to be so expensive to run a player owned cantina please give people some incentive to go there instead of just healing in their house!
