I have a simple question. I really like the idea of being a musician in SWG, because it fits with my personallity, and there aren't many around. However it seems like leveling is little more than doing tons of flourishs, either AFK or ATK, and at master, you basically do the same thing, except you don't need the xp any more. Basically my question is it worth devoting my time and skill points to being a musician in SWG?

Well,

Just like any profession, it is fun if you actually like that sort of thing (this case being music). You can do lots... Make instruments to sell andfocus/will power buffs. You don't have to just play music all day. Plus if you are into Rping you can play at peoples wedding, parties, etc....

Basically you get to help people out

Well, I enjoy being a Musician.

Part of the fun is playing in a band -- not the pickup group in Coronet cantina, but an organized ensemble that trades solos, changes clothes on cue, does timed lighting and smoke effects (with help from Dancers), plays at gigs, appears at weddings, etc. My advice is not to over-commit your band: one gig every couple of weeks may be enough for you.

Part of the fun is role-playing. You can smoke deathsticks, drink whiskey, flirt with the Dancers, ask what happened to Alderaan, whatever.

There are things to look forward to, as well. New songs and instruments are coming; I wish I could tell you when. I do know that several songs are in the works. Mind heals may be coming for Musicians too ; we haven't heard anything on this score since Holocron mentioned the possibility many moons ago.

Musicians actually have the skill points to be a decent combatant too. Even if you take Master Entertainer as well, you still have just enough points to master Rifleman, Carbineer, or Pistoleer. Combined with your Musician's +7 Ranged Defense and +7 Melee Defense, mastery of one of these professions makes you a decent fighter. (Well, I chose Carbineer, which was not optimal, but still.) If you dont take Master Entertainer, then you've got even more options.

And yes, your buff will be in pretty high demand, if you advertise it well. Mind-wound and BFhealing is, of course, always in demand.

I'd say give Master Musician a try. That's the nice thing about a skill-based game: you can always try something else if you don't like it.

I've been a Master Musician since August and I still love it. I don't even advertise for buffs, just the title's enouogh to get someone to ask for a buff. Open up your own Cantina, fun putting it together, and decorating an actual stage other than the center of the room in most non-player cantina's *grumbles*.

Oh, and you left out Swordsman, Fencer, Pikeman and Teras Kasi
