I was advised to post this here, because of the loss of BF and that it might stir some thought and hope for the future of the Entertainer prof. It is cut straight from my ideas thread on the General Discussion Forum, and I was told posting it here would get the best feedback and possibly be forwarded to the devs by the corr. The NPC city content is only posted here because some of my entertainer ideas directly relate to them. So here goes....

Entertainer

In an effort to make entertainers more fun, and even useful in combat I propose the following:

· One of their elite skill sets is used for a special kind of combat – gladiatorial combat. These would have unique specials when acquired that can be used with melee weapons, and even unarmed. Also there would be a couple of weapon certificates for weapons only useable by players within this class. This could also mean having gladiatorial ‘arenas’ in the game where, one on one duels could take place, as well as being part of the Entertainer quests (i.e. Kill a dewback or npc gladiators in arena combat). Entertainment gladiator skills would be a unique addition to any group, where as the other entertainer skills would concentrate more on making money, and buffs for players.

· Dancers and Musicians would now automatically get tips in a cantina they play in, stretched out over a period of time and dependant on their skill level in Fame. This would be in addition to buffs given to players listening or watching them.

· The buffs would be different depending on what the entertainer is doing, and the power of the buff dependant on their skill as an Entertainer. Dancers give out buffs for action, Musicians for health, watching gladiator bouts gives xp buffs.

· The new entertainer elite profession: Gladiator requires the athletics skill set, and the completed ‘unarmed’ skill set from Brawler.

Troupes
Entertainers can now form 'troupes' which can perfom in the market place area, or the cantina of npc cities. NPC tipping works in the same way as combat players group missions. Every member of the troupe receives a pay out equal to the highest level entertainer in the troupe, and all receive bonus xp for being in a troupe.

Busking
Musicians can now 'busk' anywhere in an NPC city. They can give players who listen xp buffs, but they do not gain any xp.

Obviously players can /tip entertainers as much or as little as they want to in both these new abilties.

NPC Cities

Market Place(Bazaar)
Instead of a terminal this would be an area of the city which crafter players can sell their wares. They can place their stall, with vendor stocked with their items. As there is limited space, the vendor and stall would only be there for as long as the player is online. Perhaps to avoid exploiting there would also be some kind of time limit, and cool down period.

In place of the old Bazaar terminals, there would also be two or three perminent NPC stalls, which would act as Bazaar terminals.

Vendor searching could take place on Holonet terminals.

Cantina
Cantinas would now be the site of a new mini-game. Sabaac! This would be a windowed mini-game, only playable in Cantinas. It is a simple card game which money can be gambled on. Similair to the mini-card game in Knights of the Old Republic. There would be a couple of NPCs to paly (AI controlled players) and it can also be played PVP.

Holonet Centre
This is a new building (could easily be the old clone centre building). It houses all the mission terminals for each profession, as well as crafting terminals.

Arena
These can be a stand-alone building, or on a lower level in a cantina. This is where gladiatorial combat is done, and where players can participate or just watch to gain buffs (if the players they are watching are gladiator proffs).

· The only players allowed to fight in an arena are either gladiators, or players duelling one another.

· Gladiators always fight a random spawned mob equal to their combat level. Gladiators can group, in which case the spawned mob will be equal to the CL of the highest member of the group.

· The Arena has a terminal, so players can set up their duels or gladiators can set up their groups etc.

Though I like the ideas, I do not think that some are in the appropriate skill set.
There is plenty of combat roles if people want them, I do not see "gladitorial" to be an entertainer skill. I do like the concept of an arena and I VERY much like the fame concepts, however fame should be based on gladitorial fame (combat profs) and performance fame (entertainers). They should be separate.

The other ideas are good, but are mostly tweaks to the way things are now, like the bazzar changes. Market stalls would be nice, but then why have the bazzar? Also people would find a way to explioit it. Or just rotate their accounts to keep the slots occupied. The bazz already does plenty. I would rather see "apartments" in some of the large NPC city buildings. Rentable units so CLVL 1 players can have an option of a home without having to die looking around towns. Some NPC cities are bad enough.

The only role I want to see for entertainers in combat would be some simple LOW LEVEL skills under a heading of "barroom brawling" or something similar. Think back, if you will, to the skills that the Blues Brothers band used to avoid getting killed in that bar that played "...both kinds of music. County AND Western". They had great dodging skills and a great "burstrun". I think our master bonus for defence is part of it, but I think that as a professional musician, I'd know how to inflict more damage with my bandfill than with my bare hands. I should also be able to have SOME fast talking ability though not as much as a smuggler.

We'll see what comes alone. My prediction is that we will see more of the same with little change. We'll keep dreaming though.

Although I applaud the thought that has gone into this and the overall idea... I don't like it.

A lot of what I'm reading here looks to be based on a 'class system' much like Everquest, WoW, DAoC, etc.

You could easily couple a Musician, Dancer or Image designer skill tree with a combat skill tree to edge up the entertainer, rather than giving them their own combat tree... which is sort of ridiculous and I suspect would never happen unless it came in a purchasable expansion pack. Besides, I would much rather see improvements made to existing branches of entertainer (Image Designer, Musician, Dancer) before adding to it.

Additionally, I'd like to point out that by making any class just automatically recieve money would lead to a huge increase of AFK-musician/dancer/entertainer bots. If all they had to do was be in a cantina and perform flourishes... that would upset the already shaky economy, leading to a huge influx of easy-made credits.

Buffs

I honestly think that they just need to revert back to the old system of handing out buffs. This would greatly increase our role in combat more than now. Is it a solution to the whole shibang? No. But I think it's a step in the right direction... even if it is a step backwards. Right now, we have no control over who we buff... the control was stripped away from us. So by adding a bit of control back, I think we, as entertainers/musicians/dancers would feel more useful.

Troupes and Busking

Again, an interesting idea... certainly an easy way to make credits. But I refer you to the comments I made about easy-made credits above. Unless, of course, you are referring to the Entertainer Mission Terminal. I've personally never done these, as I found being sociable in cantinas yields more money than the terminals do.

Market Place(Bazaar)

I honestly think terminals are more Star-Warsy. Maybe allowing stalls to be set up in various parts of the city instead, for people who want to put the work into selling their items... that would be pretty neat. However, the bazaar system works as it is. I personally feel like it's a pretty solid system now that you can do an entire search of the galaxy's vendors, so long as they're listed.

Cantina

Everything you listed could be done at a player-run establishment. I've seen it done. It's much better than a 'mini-game' and a heck of a lot more immersive. Leave the fighting outdoors though. Common professional courtesy to the entertainers performing inside the cantinas.

Many of the ideas could be implimented through creative use of what SWG already has to offer. The one thing that caught my eye was your idea of Sabacc. If you ever get a chance, I highly recommend hopping on Kettemoor during an event run in Namasoon City, Dantooine called the Black Dice Den. It's a player run casino based on the Star Wars genre gambling games. To my knowledge they have three. Sabacc, Snake Eyes and Pazaak. I tried Sabacc and Pazaak. I was very impressed with not onyl the set up with the casino, but the thought gone into making the games fun and playable.

Holonet Centre

No good. By putting all your 'eggs in one basket' you're going to cause more lag. Imagine walking up to this centre where there are already masses of people doing the same. Remember how the spaceports used to be back when it took 10 minutes for the transport to arrive? Keeping terminals spread out is a good idea, keeps player lag reduced.

Arena

This really already exists in the form of combat mission terminals. Only it's not in a building, in town. It's a notable idea, but I think an unecessary one.

Some unique ideas there (and some that have crossed the radar before). I don't know how well it would fit (or if it'd ever ever happen), but that gladiator thing at least sounds fun!

dependant on their skill level in Fame.

Fame? Now, there is a good idea. It could be based on how many people have watched you and cheered/clapped/whatever. Perhaps, even rated you but I'm not sure thatrating would be a good idea UI wise.

Fame! I wanna live forever .. na na na na na na na
