Thread: Music Droids and Bandflos

As a DE on one server and an MM on another, I have a vested interest in droids. There have been a few reports lately of Music Playback functioning in strange ways, and I thought the best way to get more insight would be to ask you folks as end users.

Problem: sometimes the music droid will stop accepting bandflourishes and simply repeat the base tune.

Some have suggested that this happens when the person giving the flos is not the owner, but I have checked and I can't repeat that. However in my experience, sometimes using /changeband will bug the droid. Particularly if you use a /changeband to kickstart a playback droid.

Request: Those of you who useplaybacks regularly, please observe them, try to catch any incidents where they stop accepting flos, and try some things to get them to start again. Please report it here, and possibly /bug it ingame if you can get it to happen reliably. If we can get a handle on when/how this happens, I'm sure Drashk will put it into the DE issues list. In particular, check the interactions when there are several musicians/droids in one band.

Droids suffer from the same bugs with /change and /start as do normal musicians, as far as I can tell. Which means, if the droid has an 'intrument equipped' (has a playback for the song you're about to change to) and is not playing when you do a /change, the droid will be bugged, and not be able to do flourishes. Thankfully, it's as easy as stopping the droid and having it start playing the song with the radial menu.
There are probably other ways to get the droid bugged, just as there are other ways to get players bugged, but yeah, I imagine that's what's going on (and it's not new).

Yes it happens to me the same way /changeb does with PC performers. If it isn't actively playing when /changeb is issued it gets bugged. One other time that it stops flourishing that people often miss is when the power is drained. A droid will continue to play for a while after it hits zero but seems to stop flourishing when it gets below 10% battery left.

I'm a DE, too

Respect to the DE's!

Anyways, I have noticed a playback droid that just wouldn't flourish even though I was doing bandflo's for it, specifying the instrument and everything. When it does happen, I check my macro carefully and everything looks fine. I copy one of the /bandflo commands out of the macro, and paste in my Chat window. Guess what - the droid flourishes just fine that one time, but refuses to listen to my macro's flourishes.

I think the way I've had it happen is that I start my bandflourish macro for my droid before I start playing music. It tells me "you must be playing music or dancing to perform a flourish." I then start playing music. I will flourish fine, but my droid won't flourish until I do a /dump and then restart the droid's flourish macro. Then it'll usually work. Usually. Sometimes I resort to turning off playback and restarting it, while playing music, then I'll hit the droid flourish macro and it's usually fine.

I've bugged it, but nothing has been done about it.

Hope that helps you!

....I just took my playback droid onto my yacht and you can't group with them in space. I'm SOOOO disappointed.

That sucks. JTL is turning out to be one great big disappointment for us entertainers.

Bug it. These are supposed to be pleasure yachts. Not very pleasurable to not be able to include a bandmate, even if it is a droid.

No, I'm not getting on a droids' rights soapbox here. Just like to take my li'l buddy with me.

Yeah. My entire 1/2 hourperformance is built on the basis of having my droid perform with me. When I don't have the droid grouped it doesn'tsound right. Yet another example of the old, old story - yet again they've pushed unfinished and poorly-thought-out crap on us and you can bet your bottom dollar that they'll tell us that it'll get fixed in the next update. Yeah, right! Like we haven't heard that one before. I'm still waiting for some things to be fixed that were broken in August '03. As usual, the shoddy job they did on thenon-combat stuff gets ignored while they fix the shoddy job they did on the combat content.

This is getting near to the last straw for me. I'm seriously considering giving up for good on this stupid game. They NEVER get anything right. It's like having the characters ofFawlty Towers develop a game.

I'm really disapointed too. I am one of the few musician left on valcyn that are still showing up for party and without droid for the party in space, being alone to play is really boring. Music is no more sounding like it should have be... If the entertainer quest was there to mask this well it didn,t work. Either way, Droid need to be grouped in space. It is removing what was left for the entertainer to still show up as a near complet profession (even if it was never the case).
