I found this today:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Release Schedule for SWG Non-Combat Content

FAO all developers:

Note that the release of the non-combat content has to be delayed again because of theprojected bugfixes for JTL. We are currently looking at 4th quarter 2006for work to begin onthe first major non-combat additions to the game. Sincethere is acontractual obligation to releaseanother twoexpansions before this date the followingdates are tenuous at best and will doubtless change:

October2006 - JTL Revamp (includes mining and transport missions).

March2007 - Crafting Revamp.

July 2007 - Hutt Casino.

4th quarter2007 - Entertainer Revamp (includes AFK fix and entertainer mission terminal fix).

2008 or later- Jabba's Palace quests forcrafters and entertainers.

2009 or later- Theed Palace quests for crafters and entertainers.

As everyone is aware, the non-combat segment of the player community has become more and more restless as time has gone by (especially the entertainer community, which, to be frank, has become a pain in the neck). It has become necessary to consider non-combat roles more seriously asthe game islosing revenue in these areas and play balance is being affected. In light of these developments more content must be pushed out in the short-termthat non-combat players will perceive as being directed at them (without compromising major goals in terms of combat content, especially where it concerns Jedi). Due to concerns regarding theoverall satisfactionof thecombat-oriented community (which is alwaysa primary goal)it is vital thatadditional non-combatcontent be minor and simple to produce (we do not want anysingle addition to take more than a day to create andimplement - even that seems needlessly ingratiating to the non-combat-oriented players who have been a thorn in the side of the developers over the past year). Whatis needed is content that is close to complete and whichhas been sitting in files for a long period, or minor fixes to broken content - anything that can be presented to the non-combatcommunity as if it'sa material improvement so that the wolf is kept at bay. Here are some ideas that have been suggested:

1. Allow entertainer droids to group aboard multiplayer ships.

2. We have musical instruments that can be made ready. Just copythe sound from an existing instrument as we didwith manyof the originalinstruments. Release ONLYone at a time please! Resources must not be depleted in this regard.

3. JTL - Space Docking. We can spin this as a non-combat fix.

4. New clothing additions.

5. Entertainer registration bug. Maybe this fix is too complex (?)

Any ideas will be welcomed - any old junk thatcan beshoved into the breechto stem the flow of revenue away from the game. It should be possible to string these quick fixes out over the next year or two to keep the non-combatcommunityoffthe development team's back.

Since June 2004, running one of the game's first completely nonviolent characters. Testing the limits of non-combat MMORPG play and trying to have fun into the bargain (although the developers make it difficult).

Combat is no longer compulsory.

I hope you don't think this is serious because it is obviously someone's idea of a joke.

Hehe, I thought it wasMY idea of a joke, although judging by the history of this game I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be close to the truth. I'll bet there are memos very similar to this (both in terms ofattitude and specifics)floating around the SOE/LucasArts offices.

You scared me there for a bit.

Unfortunately, it's probably true. How would we know? It's not like they give us any feedback. Even in the treads they start.

you had me until you said the line about jedi. No dev would ever admit that. Well i heard once that if you always prepare for the worst anything good that happens will be a pleasant surprise. So, um, what do we do until 2006?

"you had me until you said the line about jedi."

Yeah, hehe. I was considering playing itstraight until very late in the article, but I figured thatmight piss more people off than it would amuse, so I added the bit about Jedi as a bit of a clue. I think it's a pity that the 'pain in the neck' bit is too close to reality for it to be immediately obvious that it's a joke. It's also sad that the dates don't sound that wacky given the slow pace of development so far. Three moreyears for the AFK problem to be fixed? - oh I hope not, but I wouldn't be surprised (actually, to be honest I don't think the game will be around that long). Just shows how bad things have become when so much stuff that would have soundedoutrageous just a few months ago can now pass as realistic-sounding.

Beery -

I respectfully ask that you don't post these kinds of articles. I don't think my heart and blood pressure can handle it. It's only becuase I'm at work I didn't holler out loud as I read it. It took a bit for the reality to filter through the redhaze of fury that was building up.

That being said, very creative.

Hehe. Okay, no more articles like that... Not for a while anyway. I'd hate to give any of my fellow players some sort of apoplectic seizure.
