You're not actually dropping it, like you would in a house. You're "using" it, all you have to do is walk away from it and it will eventually poof, if you check your inventory you'll see its still in there

It's really kinda cool because, unlike other instruments, when you use the Ommni, then stop playing and it stores again, if you had it in a pack, it stays in the pack. Much better than having to move it back every time.
