Thread: What happend to the /sing command?

A long time ago, well relatively speaking, there were some phenomenal bands around.
I mean groups of people who really took the time to plan out songs, using all the differnt phrase sections, and added lyrics to them.
There was one band, can't remember the name off the top of my head, that did Prince covers, with Star Wars lyrics.
It was great.
There was huge battle of the bands, at least 7 bands total, who did multiple numbers, with dancers, and this all was before entertainer droids even exsisted, all I can say was, AMAZING!
At any rate, I was wondering why the /sing command has been removed?
It seems strange that we got new emotes like /die, and /rude, but have lost the ability to SING!?!?!
Am I missing something?

In fact, it's even listed in the orginal manual, and I found it here on this quick reference card,

Is the character you're trying to /sing with at least a novice entertainer? If not, the text of the /sing will not show up (though you'll still animate if you hit any of the keywords that make you animate while talking

Heheh I remember the first time I discovered that /sing only worked with Entertainers. I was disappointed, because it meant I could only/sing with Lilo at that time.
Now, of course, the majority of my characters can /sing!
The main problem I came across, and the main one I think a lot of people have with /singing is that some people consider it spam and threaten to /report those whom they find singing.

/sing command is only work with "Novice Entertainer" skill.
So if you do not have Novice Entertainer you cannot use this command. Besides it is like using /healdamage command without Novice Medic. Not different in my opinion.

I didn't know this... but then almost all of my characters are entertainers of one kind or another.

Thanks for the answer guys, now I GET it.
And btw, all those phenomenal bands are gone on my server, just a bunch of mindless buffbots now.
The really KILLER bands have all vanished.
There were several, and they were obviously players that spent some time together perfecting thier "act". Being a semi-pro musician IRL, I was amazed at what was actually possible withing the structure of the game, give a group of people who were willing to put in the time, and effort to "push the envelope", especialy since Entertainers get VERY little monetary reward in the current game system. (Unless its by the generostiy of other players, which is rare, considering MANY people still consider paying for buffs, or BF healing to be unecessary )
)I've seen my share of SWG videos, and that's alot easier to cut, and choreograph in a way that makes it appealing, but the fact that these guys did it "live" in real time, was really nothing short of astounding.
If there are still bands like this (like the one that did all prince covers, with SWG lyrics), is there a sticky, or list on this forum somewhere the lists thier names, servers, performance times, etc.?
I would surely create a character on ANY server, just to see another really kick %^$& band again.

In my server, all of bands are vanished too (Infinity) there were 2 main buffbots of Zeezz and Zaazz and now lots more near them. Last night I'm ashamed of myself, trained one person and today I saw her as buff bot too... I'm really getting frustated about it...
So no worries, hopefully they will go by time and... if we are here...

Yeah it took me a little time to figure out that nugget. After my original chilastra character, I was used to /singing my battle cry (if you ever heard the G.I. Joe theme song bellowing on dantooine... guess who? 
). Shortly after that, I made a wookiee on tempest and was dissappointed that /sing didn't work for him. At the time I figured it was a wookiee limitation (like they can't vocalize most languages). Wasn't until I made 3rd char on radiant (mon cal), and /sing didn't work for him, that I figured out you needed novice entertainer for it. Oh well. You learn something new every day
