Thread: Macros and Alias files are our friends

I will say that I get very very afraid not having a clue as to what the devs have in mind about macros.

I am a seriousentertainer and I use macro and alias files extensively. I also have simple macros to flo while I am doing other things like singingor talking.

Now I understand that there are problems with afk buffbots and I agree that it needs to be addressed but I have seen "solutions" in the past that can make it very hard on the honest people.

The dev's have to realise that there are important and legitimate uses for macros and alias files. They can be the next step up from just playing along with the din and the only way to be truely creative.

Every song I have written is an extensive alias file. If they destroy that aspect, I no longer have a reason to entertain because I will not have the tools to do it.

Case in point, this is a song I wrote. (You are free to use it as is, with due credit to the author.) It is an alias file that runs in its entirety when loaded and triggered.

Naboo: /g "Naboo National Anthem" to Ballad, starting in 10;/say The Naboo National Anthem, (Authored by Loniki Lee);/pause 10;/nabo1;
nabo1: /sing The weather on Planet Hoth will freeze you to the bone;/pause 5;/sing The sandstorms on Tatooine will never leave you alone;/pause 5;/sing Dathomir creatures tend to eat it's visitors alive;/pause 5;/sing But on the plains of Naboo, Kaadus and Fambaas thrive.;/pause 6;/nabo2;
nabo2: /sing Naboo, Naboo, your there for us;/pause 4;/sing Naboo, Naboo, You have our trust;/pause 4;/sing Nabbo, Naboo, You are our home;/pause 4;/sing No matter how far we may roam.;/pause 6;/nabo3;
nabo3: /sing Sure we have our punks and thugs like all the others do.;/pause 5;/sing But its normal here to get home alive when our hunt is through.;/pause 6;/sing Its places like Endor or Dathomir that leave you like a stone;/pause 5;/sing Thats why the luscious plains of Naboo have become our home.;/pause 6;/nabo4;
nabo4: /sing Naboo, Naboo, We're there for you;/pause 4;/sing Naboo, Naboo, our faith is true;/pause 4;/sing Nabbo, Naboo, Your in our hearts;/pause 4;/sing Our loyalty will not depart.;/pause 4;/nabo5;
nabo5: /sing The land of crystal mountain lakes and waterfalls of grace;/pause 5;/sing And cultural diversity spread out across her face.;/pause 5;/sing The RSF will roam our space and keep us safe from harm;/pause 5;/sing As its only here on Naboo one feels they truely do belong;/pause 6;/nabo6;
nabo6: /sing Naboo, Naboo, your there for us;/pause 4;/sing Naboo, Naboo, You have our trust;/pause 4;/sing Nabbo, Naboo, You are our home;/pause 4;/sing No matter how far we may roam.;/g end

Now my main point in this post is that after the dev's get done doing their "Fix", I better still be able to sing a song, and that goes for every other creative entertainer who writes songs in this game. If they destroy my tools to entertain, I will have no use for SWG.

Seriously, I have no clue if the Dev'sunderstand the depths that some people get into in the entertainer fields. I don't know if they have ever seen a real performance by an entertainment troope. This is an important part of this profession. I would really like assurances that they aren't going to mess us up in the name of recursive macros. As much as I hate buffbots, I would prefer them around if it meant destroying the entertainer fields over it.

Dev's, if in doubt I invite you to contact me directly in game. Please don't do anything rash without fully understanding the impact it can cause.

it amazes me that anyone can think doing away with macro recursion (as planned) will make any difference. its easy to chain a few macros or alias files and be able to buffbot all night - devs are trying to lance a boil but cutting the patients head off - effective but way ott

Problem is all we ever hear is rumors, no one knows how they actually plan to do this.

Look at their past "fixes" where we can't even change instruments and get back to playing with our group in a timely manor. Add delays to faulty instruments like the Nal and Omni and we can't even target others or we stop playing and can't do anything till the delay is over, not to mention when we get "bugged" and can't stop and restart fast. This little "fix" screwed up our continuity of performances all because some people were doing fast buffs. No, they couldn't fix that without screwing over everyone so what makes you think for a moment they can fix the buffbot issue without destroying the whole proffession? I mean really? Now they are messing with a core system that can totally destroy the ability of an entertainment troupe to even perform.

I've heard rumors they may destroy the ability of a macro or alias file to call another.Then I heard rumors they justwill not be able tocall themselves. Since this didn't happen I fear they will go even farther.

My entertainer charactor is strictly RP. She does gigs with a band. She runs a PA for other entertainers.

No, she doesn't fit into that mold the dev's have of an entertainer as a support proffesion there for the sole purpose for fighters to get buffs from. She doesn't get tips for buffs, she gets tips for talent. I know this is outside the box for the dev's idea of an entertainer. All she does is perform and when she can't, she has no more reason to play SWG.

First I don't see any recursion in the example posted so what makes you think it won't work? Second the devs have stated that recursion has a valid function and they are interested in getting rid of AFK play. So we don't know exactly what they will do but I don't think they plan to break every macro and alias that exists. I also don't think they will get rid of limited recursion although that is only a guess.

People are making huge assumptions then complaining that the proposed change will destroy them. Until its on test center to try and to provide feedback there isn't much you can add.
